The Bench 2017 - International Design Competition

THE BENCH is an idea based design competition open to all ages and backgrounds. The challenge of the competition is to design and install a temporary structure on a street to transform the street environment to a form of public space. The challenge of THE BENCH 2017 is to design a seasonal seating- space along the street edge(s) defined by the competition. The competition will unfold in two phases: selection by jury and installation for seasonal use. Multiple entries will be chosen as winning entries and will be constructed for public use during the 2017 WINNIPEG DESIGN FESTIVAL.

Helen & Hard Win Competition to Built Waterfront Cultural Museum in Norway

Situated at the intersection of a forest-scape and harbor, Helen & Hard’s winning museum competition entry, Navet, offers the Norwegian island of Odderøya a place to reflect on the area’s heritage and naval history. Located in the city of Kristiansand, Navet will join a group of institutions in the region called the Vest Agder Museums that celebrate Norway’s past. Developed through careful consideration of its surrounding landscape, the form of the building situates itself to activate both the water and existing mountain front.

Fernando Guerra: A Photography Practice Under X-Ray

With the new millennium, architectural photography has gained exponential prominence in the relationship that architects have with society. The FG+SG studio has taken on the challenges presented by the greater media impact of architecture, which today constitutes a photographic practice rewarded with international prizes and recognition.
Fernando Guerra’s progressive affirmation as a photographer has accompanied contemporary architectural production and his photo reportages, disseminated worldwide through the virtual platform Últimas Reportagens, offer us a privileged look at today’s architecture. At the same time, his photographic practice responds to the technical evolution that has taken place in photography in recent decades, essentially marked by the full affirmation of the new digital media.
Call for Entries: The 2017 Architecture Drawing Prize

Update: the deadline for this competition has been extended to September, 25, 2017 at 23:30 BST.
Make, the Sir John Soane’s Museum and the World Architecture Festival (WAF) have come together to create a prize for architectural drawing. The Prize recognises the continuing importance of hand drawing but also embraces creative use of digitally produced renderings.
