The goal of the competition, which is open to all students who are currently enrolled at the university level, is to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society. Participants should engage with the exploration and resolution of the synergistic relationship between a tall building and its urban setting; how that tall building can be inspired by the cultural, physical, and environmental aspects of its site; how the program of the building is influenced by the micro and macro site/urban conditions; and how the building responds to global issues. Proposals should show evidence of a clear understanding of how considerations of structure, environment, servicing, etc. are as vital to the success of a tall building as the form, materials, aesthetics, etc.

Berlin has been a main witness of the greatest cultural, religious, political and artistic transfor­mations of Europe throughout the centuries and its architectural and urban heritage allow us to revisit through its streets, monuments and buildings the convulsive history of this continent. From its origins in the middle Ages it has witnessed the raise of the Prussian Empire and its collapse after the First World War, its resurgence as the Weimar Republic and later the formation of the III Reich. It has seen the horrors of World War II, occupied and divided by a shameful wall for almost 30 years and later, after its fall, it has experienced the reunification of a country to finally establish itself as the most important capital of Europe.

Ideasforward is an experimental platform that seeks progressive ideas reflecting emerging themes. Ecological design, sustainable architecture, new materials, concepts, and technologies are urgent issues for the societies of the future, and the participation of the entire community is essential. In an era of globalization, where communication has been dominated by the technological revolution, there is a need to rethink cities and how people relate to one another in a global world, as well as to rethink the economic, social, and cultural patterns of contemporary societies.

Architecture Student Design Challenge 2019: Affordable Living Spaces

COMPETITION NAME: Straw Bale Ecological House.

The Mieres Polytechnic School of the University of Oviedo, through its Transport Engineering Department, is launching an international ideas competition for university students to solicit proposals for resolving an urban and territorial issue associated with the evolution of transport networks.

Argentine firm Estudio Arzubialde and Chilean architect Verónica Arcos led a Material Experimentation Workshop in Rosario, Argentina, during which six different groups of students designed and built projects using a variety of brick laying techniques.

Each project used different brick patterns based on simple rules, resulting in a structure with a certain degree of geometric complexity.

Factory of Ideas and Innovation is the theme for the 12th edition of the Architecture Student Competition, a project promoted by the Brazilian Center for Steel Construction (CBCA). Interested teams must register between February 4 and July 25; teams must consist of at least two and no more than four students. Each group must be advised by a professor from the same university and may also include a co-advisor.

Kaunas architecture festival KAFe2019 invites to participate in the international exhibition-competition of final projects of university architecture students – of both bachelor and master studies – on the topics of the central part of Kaunas town. The topic of this year’s KAFe2019 – Landmark architecture – creating or destroying a city’s identity? – therefore the development of the central part of town and the role of “landmark” buildings in this process is at the focus of the competition topics suggested for consideration of Lithuanian and foreign architecture universities.

The Scholars’ Prize in Architecture is an exciting and valuable opportunity for an early-career architect or post-Part II student of architecture to spend three months in Rome (living at the BSR), and be a member of a vibrant residential community of architects, artists and researchers. Every year, hundreds of students graduate as architects across Colombia, producing projects and theses that reflect their personal interests, research, and motivations. Unfortunately, once their studies conclude, these projects often remain buried in a laptop folder or on a library shelf. We know, however, that many of these theses address fundamental issues in contemporary architectural practice, not only in Colombia but globally.

For this reason, we are launching the third edition of our open call for graduation theses in Colombia. If you believe your undergraduate or graduate thesis is strong enough to be published on ArchDaily and deserves global recognition, it is time to submit your entry using the form at the end of this article.
