Lima Cómo Vamos, an institution with over a decade of experience, is calling for submissions of research and projects focused on our cities and their development. Selected research will be presented at the III Foro Ciudades Cómo Vamos, a platform for sharing approaches, evidence, and proposals with public authorities, private institutions, and the general public committed to improving the country’s cities and the quality of life of their inhabitants.
On Friday, September 25, the discussion "Citizen Initiatives: A Proposal for Lima 2035" will be held.
The San Felipe residential complex (Residencial San Felipe), designed and built by a team of architects from the National Housing Board between 1962-1969, is nestled on a 27 hectare lot in the Jesús María District in Lima, Peru. Dubbed as one of the most important infrastructure projects under President Fernando Belaúnde Terry, the housing complex is representative of the modernist ideology of the time that looked to traditional urban concepts to address the country's contemporary housing needs.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated urban inequality in Latin America, with impacts evident in the vulnerability of citizens and their relationship with public space. "This situation reflects the need to adapt and implement our streets in a creative way that accounts for the diversity of people, thereby achieving spacious public areas that help reduce the risk of contagion for the most vulnerable users," says Mariana Alegre, Executive Director of Lima Cómo Vamos and Ocupa Tu Calle.
We are officially launching the 3rd edition of the Bamboo Experience Camp - Peru 2020, an international training workshop where we will construct a module using earth and local, native, and introduced bamboo species—Chusquea dombeyana and Dendrocalamus asper—in the city of Tarma, Peru.
This is a space for discovery and discussion regarding the present and future of the country's cities. The event aims to share approaches, evidence, and proposals concerning Peru's cities, and to facilitate the exchange of multi-stakeholder efforts aimed at improving urban areas nationwide, with the goal of accelerating Peru's transformation into a country of high-quality cities for all citizens.
