1st International Scientific Seminar on Risk, Humanitarian Architecture, and Gender: Risk, resilience, humanitarian architecture, and incremental housing in favelas: The role of universities, architects, social sectors, and the "Marias & Marielles."

Students, professionals, creators, and fashion enthusiasts who enroll in IED Rio fashion courses this September will have access to Master Classes with Oskar Metsavaht, Ronaldo Fraga, and Sérgio Besserman. The first session will take place on September 19, featuring Oskar Metsavaht and Sérgio Besserman, who will discuss sustainability and new economic models—the most urgent topics in the fashion industry today. On September 26, Ronaldo Fraga will explore the concept and development of personal branding, drawing on his celebrated experience in managing his own name and brand throughout his career.

On Tuesday, June 11, at 7:30 PM, the Instituto Casa Vilanova Artigas (São Paulo, SP) will host the launch of the book "Rodrigo Brotero Lefèvre e a ideia de Vanguarda no Brasil," authored by Miguel Antonio Buzzar, professor and director of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAU/USP).

WHAT IS MAU?

The Architecture and Urbanism Moment at the Federal University of Paraíba (MAU-UFPB) is an annual, non-profit event organized by students in collaboration with the Academic Center for the Architecture and Urbanism Program (CACAU-UFPB). It aims to foster participatory and democratic discussions regarding the proposed theme within the field of architecture and urbanism. The event is structured around various activities planned according to specific themes, organized into discussion circles, lectures, workshops, experiential sessions, and conferences. Much like the National Federation of Architecture and Urbanism Students (FeNEA), the event aims to foster a creative, innovative, collaborative, human-centered, and socially conscious education, with the goal of expanding student participation as citizens within the student movement and as future professionals.

Escola da Cidade – School of Architecture and Urbanism and the Sesc Research and Training Center (Sesc CPF) are partnering to host two sessions with Peruvian architects Sandra Barclay and Jean Pierre Crousse on June 25 and 26 at the Sesc CPF headquarters.

Those who pre-register for the general presentation will receive a 15% discount on tuition. The event takes place on December 4.

Walking is the most common mode of transportation, and it is also the one that best allows people to pay attention to their surroundings. For this reason, at the opening of Walking Week 2019, the NGO SampaPé! is hosting discussions based on the question, "Do we learn by walking?"

This course—offered in three monthly modules (April, May, and June) of four classes each—will discuss central issues in the history of modern art through iconic works by Paul Cézanne, Louise Bourgeois, Le Corbusier, Marguerite Duras, Federico Fellini, Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, Kazimir Malevich, Hannes Meyer, Aleksander Rodchenko, Arnold Schoenberg, and Giuseppe Terragni. The modules can be taken individually or sequentially. By adopting a critical and non-linear approach to the history of art and architecture, the classes will explore paradigmatic points of the field in the 20th century. The diverse group of young speakers selected—including art historians, curators, architects, and psychoanalysts—provides, in itself, an overview of contemporary art criticism and research in São Paulo.

History of Art, Painting, Architecture, Photography & Cinema Course - Module 3

The course aims to introduce participants to theatrical architecture and its interdisciplinary context through an introduction to the history of global scenic architecture, exploring the languages that directly influenced the architecture and theatrical practice of Teat(r)o Oficina.

Opening on August 15, the exhibition presents a portrait of Brazil's largest city, narrating its rapid growth through archives, photographs, original drawings, and texts.

On March 29 at 7:00 PM, IED will host the free debate "Augmented City – Design and Creativity as Transformative Elements of Urban Territories," featuring Italian architect and urban planner Maurizio Carta (b. 1967, Palermo), Rio de Janeiro-based architect and urban planner Pedro Évora (b. 1978), and Andrea Matarazzo, with moderation by designer Alexandre Salles. The event is part of the Italian Design Day program, established by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the influence of Italian design in cities worldwide. Maurizio Carta is the author of several publications and explores the concept of the "augmented city" in books such as Dynamics of Periphery: Atlas of Emerging Creative Resilient Habitats and Territories: Rural-Urban Strategies, both co-authored with J. Schroeder, M. Ferretti, and B. Lino, and published by Jovis, Berlin, in 2018 and 2017, respectively. He is a full professor of urban and regional planning in the Department of Architecture at the University of Palermo and serves as the ambassador for Italian Design Day 2019.

In 2016, then-mayor of São Paulo João Doria announced a renovation project for Largo do Arouche, dubbed "Little Paris." The name refers to the square's French-inspired urban design and seeks to erase the memory of what can be considered one of the city's first LGBT+ territories. The project by the Franco-Brazilian firm Triptyque reinforces this narrative by failing to engage in a broad dialogue with the local community.

On October 8 at 7:30 PM, the Istituto Europeo di Design will host engineer Luiz Antonio Secco, one of the most prominent figures in Rio de Janeiro's retail sector, for the inaugural lecture of the Libero course in Retail Design, which begins on October 14. Over the two-day event, the goal is to discuss urban mobility systems and the ongoing changes in the contemporary city at large.

The exhibition presents a sample of contemporary residential production through a selection of 12 houses built in the São Paulo metropolitan area, featuring works by the offices SPBR, MMBB, SIAA, Grupo SP, Longato Pirondi, Apiacás, Brasil Arquitetura, Andrade Morettin, UNA, Obra, Terra e Tuma, and Drucker Arquitetura.
