As the only living artist from the Grupo Frente—a significant artistic movement established exactly 70 years ago in Rio de Janeiro and considered a landmark of the constructive movement in Brazil—César Oiticica will open the exhibition "Frente a Frente" at the Paço Imperial on November 13, 2024. Curated by Paulo Venancio Filho, the exhibition will present 20 works that are either previously unseen or have long been absent from public view. A large portion of these were created during the period when the artist was a member of the Grupo Frente, founded by Ivan Serpa (1923–1973) in 1954, which included prominent figures such as Abraham Palatnik (1928–2020), Aluísio Carvão (1920–2001), Hélio Oiticica (1937–1980), Lygia Clark (1920–1988), Lygia Pape (1927–2004), Franz Weissmann (1911–2005), and Rubem Ludolf (1932–2010), among others. The exhibition will also include recent works, providing the public with a comprehensive overview of the artist's trajectory.

On October 3, at 6:30 PM, the exhibition “Monstros” (Monsters) will open at Z42 Arte, offering an overview of the eleven-year career of Rio de Janeiro-based artist Fernanda Leme. Curated by Alexandre Sá, the exhibition features approximately 80 paintings—most of which have never been shown before—produced between 2013 and the present, which explore the roles of painting and photography in contemporary life. Drawing from her own life, the artist uses her work to address universal themes, such as the liquid society we inhabit, the fleeting nature of images, grief, loss, and longing. “The exhibition is a chronicle of our time, a work of memory and imagery,” the artist explains. On October 26, at 5:00 PM, she will lead a guided tour of the exhibition alongside curator Alexandre Sá.

The exhibition "Tempo, tempo, tempo..." opens at Galeria Pop Up on Wednesday, July 17, at 7:00 PM. Curated by Mario Camargo, the show features works by 11 artists with established visual research and careers in contemporary art.

SAU—the Academic Week of Architecture and Urbanism—is an event organized by students, for students. Its core principle is to provide and consolidate knowledge for those interested in architecture. "Carlos Muniz: The Abstract Gaze”

The Portobello Group is hosting another edition of its Sustainability Week from June 17 to 22, an initiative aimed at mobilizing the public and showcasing the company's actions related to the topic.

The first collective exhibition to inhabit the Casa do artista Gerson Pinheiro, titled “Sob o teto do Tempo” (Under the Roof of Time), will hold its finissage on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The exhibition fosters a dialogue between the works of contemporary artists and the paintings of professor and architect Gerson Pinheiro. Participating artists include: Aline Reis, Ana Paula Alves, Beth Ferrante, Carlomagno, Dorys Daher, Laura Figueiredo-Brandt, Marcelo Palmar Rezende, Selma Jacob, Sonia Wysard, Taísa Collaço, Thelma Innecco, and Vera LUCS.

Lider, a furniture brand from Minas Gerais that blends artisanal craftsmanship with design, is showcasing 25 of its 33 new products at the inaugural edition of DW! Rio, Rio de Janeiro’s Design Week, held from September 3 to 8 at Casa Shopping.

The performance “Cult against the Frauds” (Culto contra os embustes), by artist Panmela Castro, will take place this Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 4:00 PM, at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). It is part of the exhibition “Radical Ideas about Love,” which remains on view until November 24, 2024.

On Saturday, August 3rd, at 2:00 PM, the Galeria Pop Up will host a guided tour of the exhibition "Tempo, tempo, tempo..." Curated by Mario Camargo, the exhibition features works by Benjamin Rothstein, Beth Ferrante, Cláudia Lyrio, Katia Politzer, Laura Bonfá Burnier, Patricia Fairon, Mario Camargo, Marcelo Palmar Rezende, Nelson Sadala, Nora Sari, and Reitchel Komch.

Next Tuesday, February 27, at 2:00 PM, artist Yoko Nishio and curator Isabel Portella will host a free, public guided tour of the exhibition “Corpo Formoso,” which will be on view until March 10 at the Galeria do Lago, in the Museu da República.

Lider, a furniture brand from Minas Gerais that combines artisanal woodworking with design, was a highlight of DW! São Paulo Design Weekend 2024, presenting key releases from its new collection with scenography by creative Jacimar Ferreira da Silva at its flagship store on Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva. Now, the installation—adapted by the in-house visual merchandising team led by Raquel Nogueira—will travel to the brand's stores in other Brazilian capitals, which will also host exclusive events featuring the designers behind several pieces in the new portfolio. In total, 19 products make up this first-semester collection.

"Coffee THROUGH THE SENSES"

On April 17, 2024, the Paço Imperial will open three simultaneous exhibitions: "Transmutações: alquimia e resistência" [Transmutation: Alchemy and Resistance] by Rio-based artist Marcela Cantuária, one of the most prominent names in the contemporary visual arts scene; "Davuls de Salé" by São Paulo-based artist Cadu, in collaboration with Adriano Motta, Maneno Juárez, and Virgilio Bahde; and "bassa danza" by Rio-based artist Nathan Braga.

The exhibition "Radical Ideas About Love," by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Panmela Castro, will open on August 9 at 5:00 PM at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). With a career spanning over 20 years, the artist presents an exhibition of participatory works centered on the psychological concept of the need for belonging as a vital human impulse. Curated by Daniela Labra with curatorial assistance from Maybel Sulamita, the show features 17 works—10 of which are never-before-seen—including performances, photographs, paintings, sculptures, and videos that explore themes such as affectivity, loneliness, visibility, empowerment, self-care, and memory.

How have the events of recent years impacted Brazilian visual arts? This is the focus of the "Brasil Visual" series, directed by Rosa Melo, which premieres on June 25, 2024, at 8:30 PM on the Curta! channel. The preview will take place this Saturday, June 22, starting at 5:00 PM at Praça Luís de Camões (Praça do Russel) in Glória. The free, public event will feature the screening of three episodes, a conversation with some of the series' participants, guest DJs, and a pocket show by artist Cabelo. Starting from the visual arts, the series addresses themes that have impacted society as a whole, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the demonstrations that swept the country, and artificial intelligence, while also exploring spirituality and the duality between the worlds of the living and the dead, among others.
