Nara Roesler Rio de Janeiro is pleased to open its 2023 season with the exhibition "Córte," by the celebrated artist Lucia Koch, starting March 16, 2023. The exhibition will feature unpublished works from the "Fundos" series, one of the most iconic in her production, in which she photographs the interiors of empty packaging used to store various products. When enlarged to human scale, these become architectural spaces that interact with the exhibition's path, creating surprising perspectives for the public.
The works in "Córte" were created especially for the Nara Roesler Rio de Janeiro space. The exhibition will also include two works not yet shown in Brazil, which were displayed at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris, where Lucia Koch presented the intervention "Double Trouble" in October 2022.
"Fundos," the only photographic series by Lucia Koch, begun in 2001, introduced the artist to the international public. Since then, it has been part of solo and group exhibitions around the world, such as the 8th Istanbul Biennial (2003), the 27th São Paulo Biennial (2006), the 11th Lyon Biennial (2011), and the 1st Rabat Biennial (2019). In 2022, during Marisa Monte's "Portas" tour, images such as "Café Extra-Forte" and "Frutas" were projected on stage, with artistic direction by Batman Zavareze, making the singer and musicians appear to be "inside" the box-screen.
