On March 15, 2023, at 7:00 PM, Anita Schwartz Galeria de Arte will open the exhibition "Tempo-Matéria" (Time-Matter), featuring approximately 14 new, previously unseen paintings by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Dudu Garcia. The works belong to the 2023 "RA 143" series, a title that references the address of the artist's studio on Avenida Rodrigues Alves, in Rio de Janeiro's port district.
"The materials I use are available right there. They are stones, lime, plaster, algae. Just as industry works with product reference codes, and astronomers similarly classify celestial bodies, I like using this nomenclature because the work concerns the place and time in which it was produced—as well as the time contained within the raw material," says Dudu Garcia. "I find it interesting for art to walk in parallel with the exact sciences. Today, with recent space discoveries, we see that the physical world is increasingly approaching the metaphysical. I believe art has an important role in this discussion." He adds, "Chance is my partner in this work."
