As part of its 175th-anniversary celebrations, the British Hospital of Buenos Aires, Argentina, launched the “Idea Raiz” competition, an initiative aimed at revitalizing the green spaces of its headquarters. The project seeks to enhance the institution's spatial and landscape qualities, creating therapeutic and recreational areas for patients, families, and staff. The following project, commissioned to architect Sebastian Castro Aedo alongside Bowlpark, proposes seven new interventions and a series of repairs to the skatepark originally designed by Plan Rampa in Parque Araucano. Located in a public park in the eastern sector of Santiago, in the commune of Las Condes, the project demonstrates various ways to activate specific areas, enabling new, more fluid ways of navigating the circuits.

Hello Wood Argentina, the creative, professional, and social program focused on teaching how to "think with your hands" and learn through experience, has opened its open call for students. It invites university students and recent graduates of Architecture, Design, and Art programs—as well as anyone who simply wants to be part of Hello Wood—to join the festival's fourth edition, which will take place in March 2020 in the Municipality of Ceibas, Entre Ríos Province.

Have you ever been curious to see inside someone else's home? With this tagline, Open House Buenos Aires has announced the details of its seventh edition, an invitation and a unique opportunity to rediscover both the architecture of Buenos Aires and its stories and residents. Like every year, this festival offers free admission to numerous architecturally significant buildings that are normally closed to the public. Over the weekend of November 9 and 10, more than 140 buildings will open their doors, making the festival one of the year's most important cultural events.

At a time when micro-housing has moved to the center of debate—driven by rapid urban densification and emerging social needs—the proliferation of micro-units such as capsule hotels in Europe has sparked conversations about the future of our cities, offering new ways to adapt to contemporary living. Against this backdrop, the MUGAK Basque Country International Architecture Biennial presented an installation titled "Nakagin 1:1," a full-scale replica of one of the capsule units from the Nakagin Capsule Tower by Kisho Kurokawa in Tokyo, Japan. Located next to the San Sebastián Royal Yacht Club, the installation overlooks one of the Basque Country's most iconic spots, La Concha Bay, allowing visitors to experience firsthand what it feels like to inhabit these micro-housing units of just 10 m² at a 1:1 scale.

SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP), in partnership with Consultatio Real Estate, presented their project for Buenos Aires titled “Catalinas Rio”, an office building on the banks of the La Plata River that is designed to double as a center of activity and expansion for the Catalinas Norte business district. With a plethora of public green spaces and two trapezoidal buildings linked by walkways and green terraces, the project aims to create a new and vibrant identity for the district and the city as a whole. Construction is due to be completed in 2022.

The call for the Architectural Preliminary Project and Curatorship Competition for the selection of the official Argentine entry to the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, known as “the Venice Biennale,” is open until November 4, 2019. The exhibition will take place from May 23 to November 29, 2020. The competition includes the curatorial proposal and the preliminary project through which Argentina seeks to offer the world a faithful reflection of its work and reflections, condensing the effort and thought generated within its borders.

On October 18, during the 17th edition of the Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture and concluding a series of keynote lectures, debates, and exhibitions held at the Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, the winners of the “Evolución Ladrillo” (Brick Evolution) award, the CICA (International Committee of Architectural Critics) awards, the Bienal BA category awards, and the Grand Biennial Prize were announced, honoring a total of 28 architecture firms, institutions, and organizations for their work in the field of architecture.

The third edition of the “Architecture and Wood” exhibition was held in Puerto Montt, Chile. This edition aimed to continue expanding the range of exhibitors by once again inviting prominent professionals to participate in an architectural commission, exploring and speculating on the constructive and formal possibilities of the material. The event serves as an invitation to showcase the value of timber architecture in the southern part of the country.

From October 4 to November 25, the call for entries for the International Design Competition for the "Education of the Future Building" will be open. The project is to be built based on the master plan designed for the Innovation Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This open, single-stage competition is open to all architecture professionals wishing to participate. The goal is to develop a landmark building for the city that, from a contemporary perspective, addresses diverse needs, demands, and requirements, positioning the Innovation Park as an urban hub. The competition seeks an architectural proposal that fosters entrepreneurship, science, technology, and the generation, attraction, and development of innovation, knowledge, and talent in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

The Casa sobre el Arroyo, commonly known as the “Bridge House,” was designed by renowned Argentine architects Amancio Williams and Delfina Gálvez de Williams between 1943 and 1946 in Mar del Plata. It was originally built as a residence for his father, the musician Alberto Williams, but served this purpose for only a relatively short period. Although the building is now recognized as a paradigm of 20th-century architecture and a crucial reference for understanding the influence of the Modern Movement in Argentina and Latin America, its future has recently been the subject of debate and speculation. After suffering two devastating fires in 2004 and 2008, the house waited for a protection plan for over twenty years, during which various public and private institutions, both national and international, campaigned for its defense and comprehensive preservation.

In March 2020, the fourth edition of Hello Wood will arrive in Argentina. This creative, professional, and social program teaches students to think with their hands and learn through experience. The program is currently seeking creative minds to join as project leaders.

In 2018, a group of former political prisoners who had been incarcerated at the Punta Carretas prison from 1968 to 1985 formed a "pro-Memorial Site commission" to promote a project that would invite reflection and memory regarding the events that occurred during their years of confinement in the former penitentiary. Seeking to create a site that fosters memory for current and future generations, they launched a call for proposals to develop a Memorial. This project honors the victims, their families, and the entire community, continuing the struggle for truth, memory, and justice in Uruguay.

On September 11, the winners of the National Ideas Competition for the “Architectural, Urban, and Landscape Development of the Northeast Entrance of the Port District - City of Santa Fe” were announced. The call for entries sought to offer new spatial responses for the area, contributing to the material and symbolic reconstruction of this sector and helping to strengthen its connection to the city and the waterfront.

Brick is, without a doubt, the building material most widely validated by the collective imagination; from children's fables to the most experimental narratives, many have drawn inspiration from the diverse meanings shaped by its distinctive character.

So begins "Arquitecturas Argentinas con Ladrillo" (Argentine Brick Architecture), a book edited by Bisman Ediciones and co-published by the Universidad de Morón and Grupo UNICER, with the participation of the Universidad Católica de Córdoba. Conceived as a compendium, it features a meticulous selection of recently built projects in Argentina sharing a clear common denominator: the study and use of brick as a fundamental building material to create architecture.

Through various graphic resources such as floor plans, photographs, and unprecedented construction details, the book functions as a true catalog of typologies, exploring the diversity and versatility of masonry applications in the region. The volume compiles history, technique, and contemporary reference projects, demonstrating how brick has inevitably established itself as a characteristic and defining material of Argentine and Latin American architecture.

On September 25, the winners of the International Ideas Competition for the design of the new Public Space, Main Boulevard, and Connection Bridge to be built in Tecnópolis for Expo 2023 were announced. Organized by the Central Society of Architects (SCA) and the Association of Architects of the Province of Buenos Aires (CAPBA), and sponsored by the Argentine Federation of Architect Entities (FADEA), this is the last of the six international competitions launched this year within the framework of Expo 2023. Across all competitions, a total of 199 proposals were submitted, with the participation of at least 2,000 architects and engineers from around the world.

Casa FOA, the national architecture, interior design, landscaping, and industry exhibition, returns to the province of Buenos Aires after 11 years. Hosted at the Círculo de Olivos, the 36th edition will open its doors to the public from September 13 to October 20, marking its return to the Buenos Aires region for the first time since 2008, when Casa FOA dazzled at the Puerto de Frutos in Tigre.

Palacio Salvo is an iconic, 100-meter-tall building located in the city of Montevideo. Inaugurated on October 12, 1928, and declared a National Historic Monument in 1996, it has now regained its light after almost 90 years in darkness. Thanks to the Gran Salvo project, and following a year of planning, production, design, and construction, a new beacon has completed its silhouette, crowning a historic dome that had been empty for years.
