Modernfold manufactures operable partitions, glass wall systems and accordion doors for interiors that need to change configuration over time. Within the Acousti-Seal® line, the Encore® single panel operable wall is the manufacturer's highest-performing acoustic platform: panels are suspended individually from an overhead track and are moved and set in place one at a time, which allows a single opening to be divided into several independent room configurations rather than a fixed pair of spaces.
Panel construction and acoustic performance
Each panel is built on a roll-formed and welded 16-gauge steel frame with steel faces and a nominal thickness of 4.25 inches (108 mm). The added depth of the platform is what supports the system's acoustic range, rated at 56, 54 or 52 STC depending on the configuration specified. Hanging weight varies between 8 and 12 lbs/sq.ft. according to the STC rating selected, a figure that should be confirmed early in the project since it determines the structural support required above the ceiling.
Operation and sealing
The system closes with an automatic top seal and a choice of SureSet™ bottom seals: a 2-inch automatic version, or manual versions in 2-inch, 4-inch and 6-inch depths. The deeper manual seals absorb larger variations in floor level, which makes the single panel configuration workable in existing buildings and in spaces with sloped or uneven floors. Panels are carried on an all-steel suspension system, and storage is organized so that panels can be stacked in pockets or remote storage areas away from the opening.
Dimensions and layout flexibility
Opening width is unlimited, and maximum panel height reaches 60 feet (18,288 mm) — the tallest of the Acousti-Seal® configurations and the reason this system is generally specified for double-height halls, atria and large assembly spaces. Because panels travel independently, the layout can include intersections, curves and multiple storage directions, which is useful when the plan requires more than one line of division from the same set of panels. Track options include #17, #14, RT100 and RT200.
Circulation and finishes
Pass doors can be specified in single or double leaf, built in matching construction so that the door reads as part of the wall surface when closed. Panel faces are available in standard and premium fabric; standard, premium and heavy-duty vinyl; carpet; marker and tack board; plastic laminate; the client's own material; or uncovered. Marker and tack board finishes are relevant where the partition doubles as a working surface, as in classrooms and training rooms.
