ZHA & Esplan Win Competition to Design the New Terminal for Rail Baltica

Zaha Hadid Architects were selected along with Esplan from Estonia to design the new terminal of the Rail Baltic railway at Ülemiste, Tallinn. Their proposal for the starting point of the Rail Baltic line connecting Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius with the European high-speed rail network, has been awarded the first place in the design competition.

Tallinn Architecture Biennale Announces the Programme for TAB 2019

TAB 2019, Tallinn’s 5th Architecture Biennale, will commence with its Opening Week from September 5-11, 2019. Earlier this week, the Biennale announced its programme of events for this year’s festival, which bears the theme “Beauty Matters: The Resurgence of Beauty”. TAB is an international celebration of architecture, organized by the Estonian Centre for Architecture and curated this year by Head Curator Dr. Yael Reisner. The Biennale consists of five main events, to take place in various venues in the heart of Tallinn, as well as a Satellite Programme hosting other events around the city.

TAB 2019 Vision Competition: “New Habitats, New Beauties”

The fifth edition of Tallinn Architecture Biennale (TAB 2019) (www.tab.ee), announces the Open Call for its Vision Competition.

TAB 2019, which will take place from 11 September – 3 November 2019 with its Opening Week on 11-15 September 2019, is dedicated to the theme “Beauty Matters: the Resurgence of Beauty“ and it is curated by Israeli-born, London-based architect and researcher Dr. Yael Reisner (Yael Reisner Studio).

Multi-Functional Lego-Like Plywood Building Blocks Create Limitless Design Solution

Out of 200 applicants, London-based Gilles Retsin Architecture won the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2017 competition with their temporary outdoor installation. Participants were challenged to use the fabrication abilities of Estonian wooden house manufacturers in a new and creative way. Jury member Martin Tamke said the Retsin proposal is, “characterized by outstanding aesthetic and intellectually challenging, as it questions current beliefs and trends in architecture."

Zaha Hadid Architects Wins Competition for Port of Tallinn Masterplan in Estonia

Zaha Hadid Architects has been selected as the winners of an international competition to masterplan the revitalization of the Old City Harbour in Tallinn, Estonia. Beating out an esteemed shortlist of 6 teams, including AZPML, KCAP Architects & Planners and Helsinki-based ALA Architects, ZHA’s proposal was lauded by the client for its “innovative and integrated approach to Tallinn’s maritime gateway.

Claudia Pasquero Announced as Head Curator of the 2017 Tallinn Architecture Biennale, Which Will Examine the Anthropocene

The Tallinn Architecture Biennale have announced Claudia Pasquero, Director of ecoLogicStudio, as the Head Curator of the 2017 edition, "bioTallinn". According to the organizers, a programme of exhibitions and symposia will "engage various architectural offices, artists, and scientists on the topic of biotechnology in architecture," examining in particular "the relationship between nature and the city in the Anthropocene age."

The Open Academy of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA) is very excited to launch the 2017 Tallinn Summer Academy of Art, Design and Architecture – Edge/Blurring Boundaries! The courses will take place in August 2017 and focus on innovative, solution-seeking, salient topics: cooperation between the natural environment and humans in nature, mapping roads and traffic to improve the efficacy of investments into public space, Estonian artistic life in the regional and international context, constructing and building large-scale, custom-dimensioned features for the elephants of the Tallinn Zoo and linking art and technology in Clay 3D printing. The teaching staff of the Summer Academy includes leading educators, researchers and artists from the EAA and partner universities.
