Seminar: Future Leaders

The RIBA Future Leaders series delivers essential leadership training tailored to the needs and aspirations of architects in practice. It provides skills and insights for up-and-coming talent in architectural practices who will drive the future of the profession. Our seminars are delivered by thought-leaders and technical specialists. Delegates are encouraged to strengthen and share outcomes with our ‘Back in Practice Tool Box’ of useful resources and guidance.

Open Call for Proposals: BSA Space Exhibitions

BSA Space, Boston’s only center for architecture and design, seeks curatorial proposals for its 2018—2019 exhibition season. The deadline to submit is Friday, April 15, 2016. Major exhibitions run 4-6 months, and are intended to utilize all of the second floor gallery space. Guest curators will be given a budget of $30K-$70K, depending upon the size, scale and preparation, which will include all exhibition expenses, including materials, fabrication, installation, curator fees, and fees for any portion of this work contracted out.

A Japanese Constellation: Toyo Ito, SANAA, and Beyond

A Japanese Constellation: Toyo Ito, SANAA, and Beyond focuses on the work of architects and designers orbiting Pritzker Prize winners Toyo Ito and SANAA. MoMA’s first presentation dedicated solely to Japanese practitioners, the exhibition spotlights a small cluster of contemporary Japanese architects working within the larger field, exploring their formal inventiveness and close professional relationships to frame a radical model of practice in the 21st century.

ARCHITECT Magazine is now accepting entries for its 10th Annual R+D Awards! And, for the very first time, full-time students and academic faculty are eligible for a reduced registration fee! Are you revolutionizing the process and product of architecture? ARCHITECT magazine wants to celebrate the groundbreaking research, materials, and technologies that are advancing the building industry at every scale—from design strategies and building systems to products, software, and fabrication methods. Entries will be judged for their documented innovation in fabrication, installation, user engagement, and performance as well as their potential to advance the aesthetic, environmental, and social value of architecture.

Lisbon's Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology Set to Open in October

The EDP Foundation has announced that MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology in Lisbon, will open to the public on October 4-5. The museum, with a new kunsthall building designed by AL_A, will “become the centerpiece of one of the Portuguese capital’s most popular cultural areas, the historic riverside district of Belém."

Pedro Gadanho, who previously held a role as a curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, has been appointed the first Director of MAAT.

Educator Workshop: Capturing the Art in Landscape Architecture

Investigate the relationship between landscape architecture and visual arts and explore how to use landscape architecture to teach interdisciplinary lessons. Discover the work of landscape architecture firm Oehme, van Sweden & Associates in the exhibition The New American Garden, visit a nearby site designed by the firm, and create a photographic artwork of your own.

National Building Museum Talk: Luminous Landscapes - Photographs by Alan Ward

Alan Ward, FASLA, masterfully uses the photographic process to see and interpret the essence of designed landscapes. In this program, he describes his process for capturing space, texture, bright light, and dappled shade in mostly black-and-white images, challenging us to see landscapes with new eyes. This talk complements the exhibition Luminous Landscapes: Photographs by Alan Ward, which will be open to attendees prior to the program. 1.5 LU (AIA) / 1.5 CM (AICP) / 1.5 PDH (LA CES)

National Building Museum Talk: Re-Ball!

Re-Ball! is an open design competition to turn 650,000, 3-inch, white, translucent plastic balls into a site-specific installation in the Dupont Underground’s 14,000-square-foot east platform. The balls were previously part of the National Building Museum’s blockbuster summer destination The BEACH. The City of Central Falls seeks Design Professionals looking to develop their portfolios with small-scale projects focused on façade improvement on Dexter Street that will bring high-quality, top-notch design to the city. This project is part of a concerted effort to create a more vibrant and integrated urban environment on our main streets. Significant investment is being done to improve the streets and sidewalks and the City wishes to expand upon this work by implementing a façade improvement program.
