CODE (COmpetitions for DEsigners) and con-fine Art have launched “The Wall,” a design competition aiming at a re-interpreting the concept of “wall.” The initiative, in cooperation with Regione Emilia Romagna, the Municipality of Bologna, and the University and the School of Fine Arts in Bologna has a cash prize of € 10,000, and winning projects will also be exhibited. The jury comprises renowned personalities of the design and art international scene, including among others Arnaldo Pomodoro, Edoardo Tresoldi, Massimo Iosa Ghini, Franco Purini and TAMassociati.

YAC – Young Architects Competitions – launches “Pinocchio Children’s Library,” an architectural competition to design a library dedicated to Pinocchio’s Adventures and available to children and adults alike. The initiative is in cooperation with the Foundation Carlo Collodi and supported by the Council of Architects of Pistoia, the School of Fine Arts of Florence, Touring Club, ISI Florence, and Casabella magazine, and it is part of the wider project “Collodi European Capital of Culture”. As a culture, we spend 90 percent of our time indoors. Architecture sustains our way of life; it supports our very being; it defines our life experience. To keep up with industry trends and important court decisions, every 10 years the AIA core set of contracts are reviewed and updated. The newly revised set of AIA contracts and forms were released April 2017. Major changes include a single Sustainable Project Exhibit that can be added to any AIA document to address the risks and responsibilities associated with sustainable projects; document title changes; new agreements containing a fill point to prompt the parties to discuss and insert an appropriate “termination fee” for terminations for convenience; and an added evaluation provision by the architect if the contractor proposes an alternative means and methods.

As the company approached its 350th anniversary, they set out to build a headquarters that would offer a dynamic showcase for its products.

The classic light fixtures that the company started with are all customizable, so the colors of the shades, bases, and arms, as well as the arm and shade styles, are interchangeable.
The Toni-Areal is a crucial part of the plan to breathe new life into Zürich West. The building was formerly a milk processing facility, and the new design by architecture firm EM2N features spaces for cultural events, as well as the Zürich University of the Arts and two departments of the Zürich University of Applied Sciences.
The Toni-Areal is one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken in Zürich and will be the largest construction site in Switzerland during its realization phase. The total usable floor space is 108,500 m2, of which the colleges comprise 84,500 m2. The remaining 23,500 m2 are dedicated to housing, cultural events, restaurants, and small retail shops, as well as parking and technology. The construction price—including basic upgrades and tenant upgrades—amounts to about 350 million Swiss francs.
