Black Sea: The Latest Architecture and News

Spectrum Architecture, in collaboration with SOG and F&M, introduces the masterplan for Gonio Yachts and Marina—a significant waterfront development on the Black Sea coast designed to provide high-end residential and hospitality infrastructure for over 30,000 people.

The project is part of EMAAR's substantial investment in Georgian real estate under the Eagle Hills brand, which plans to develop two megaprojects in Tbilisi and Batumi. The total investment exceeds $6.5 billion and aims to attract $10 billion in foreign direct investment, generate 30,000 jobs across multiple sectors, and host 350,000 visitors annually.

Studio Fuksas has won the competition to design the new Gelendzhik Airport in Gelendzhik, Russia. Gelendzhik is considered the third most popular resort city on the Black Sea coast. Prioritizing the landscape and an interior garden of local pine trees, the project is set to become the new gateway into the city. Inspired by the flight of birds when they change direction, the airport was made to be a new landmark for Gelendzhik.

Zaha Hadid Architects has won an international competition for the Admiral Serebryakov Embankment masterplan in the city of Novorossiysk on Russia’s Black Sea coast. Connecting Russia with the Mediterranean, Atlantic Ocean, and Suez Canal, the industrial city is home to the nation’s largest shipping port, and the third busiest in Europe by turnover.

The ZHA masterplan, designed in collaboration with Russian studio Pride TPO, seeks to integrate new public space and amenities into the rich maritime history and traditions of Novorossiysk, achieved through careful consideration of building orientation, views, and landscape.
