This year, the Faculty of Architecture at the National University of Rosario, Argentina, will host the 37th Meeting and 22nd Congress of Arquisur, an association bringing together 28 public schools and faculties of architecture from South America.

The event will take place from September 26 to 28 and will feature presentations, academic exhibitions, and workshops involving students and faculty from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.

The theme for Arquisur 2018 is "The Public Dimension of Architecture." It aims to explore the notion of "public space," as various contemporary perspectives advocate for restructuring the urban condition to enable diverse practices, urging a reclamation of local identity and the recovery of spaces that foster the formation of a political community.

The Wilton Paes de Almeida building, a landmark of modern architecture in São Paulo and recognized as a municipal cultural heritage site in 1992, collapsed following a massive fire on May 1st of this year. The Docomomo São Paulo chapter mourns, above all, the loss of human life and the tragedy faced by the residents who occupied that architectural icon.

The XXVII Latin American Conference of Schools and Faculties of Architecture (CLEFA) will take place on November 6 at the Universidad del Bío-Bío's Concepción campus. Over four days, various academics, professionals, and students will present on topics concerning the training of architects in Latin American academic institutions.

This year, delegations from Latin American and Caribbean countries will participate, alongside special guests—including Cazu Zegers, Taller 1:1 U. Talca, Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, Grupo Talca, Estudio Terra, Angel Barceló, Horacio Valencia, and Gustavo Scheps—with a program of activities relevant to the central theme: "Beyond the Border."

The National Museum of Architecture in Mexico City cordially invites you to visit the exhibition XV Mexican Architecture Biennial + 2nd Young Architects Biennial, which showcases the winning projects from these events held in recent weeks.

Once again, architecture will play a significant role in the upcoming edition of the Hay Festival, Spain's largest event for ideas, which celebrates its thirteenth edition in Segovia from September 10 to 23.

Joining the previously announced Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa—founders of the firm SANAA and 2010 Pritzker Prize laureates—, Martha Thorne, Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize and Dean of the IE School of Architecture and Design, and László Baán, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, are Lars Lerup, a Swedish architect and global expert on cities, former Dean of the Rice School of Architecture in Texas; Ricardo Devesa, architect and editor-in-chief of Actar Publishers and UrbanNext; and Walter Mariotti, editorial director of DOMUS. The festival will also feature Hannah Rothschild, a prominent figure in the international art world, collector, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery.

Spanish architect Javier García Solera will present the lecture "(Para) qué dibujar" at GO Galería de Oficios, an event organized by TÁCTI.CO Taller de Arquitectura as part of the programming for the open school "Taller Común."

Good news: new spots have opened for TSL PERU 2018! The 15th Latin American Social Workshop for Architecture Students will be held in Chucuito, a small city within Puno, considered the folkloric capital of Peru and the Americas. The event will feature various academic and sociocultural activities that will connect Latin American architecture students with the richness and needs of the local reality. This engaging workshop will take place from March 22 to April 2; registration closes on January 31.

“Markets: Informality, Diversity, and Heritage Around the Mapocho River” is the next Atravieso Urbano hosted by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture. These thematic tours of Santiago are led by faculty architects from the institution and are open to the public.

The Instituto Cremme launched an artistic competition for students of Architecture and Urbanism, Design, Photography, Communication, and Fine Arts in the State of São Paulo, within the context of the exhibition "Experimenting with Le Corbusier - Contemporary Interpretations of Modernism." The concept behind the A0 Brief was to invite participants to reflect on Le Corbusier, modernism, and their legacy in contemporary Brazil, and to materialize this discussion through the A0 format.

The Chapter’s Urbanism Commission will address the most prominent urban planning issues in the Monterrey metropolitan area and the state of Nuevo León. The session will feature architects Alexandre Lenoir, Oscar Martínez, Maricarmen Elosua, Ricardo Padilla, Fernando López, and Oscar Bulnes, as well as engineer Gabriel Todd.

Chilean architect Emilio Duhart (1917–2006) and the University of Concepción (founded in 1919) have been inextricably linked since 1957, when Duhart began a ten-year tenure leading the expansion project for the university campus in Concepción.

Tsinghua University established the Tsinghua University Architectural Design & Research Institute (THAD) in 1958 as a platform for architectural education and academic research, serving the development and construction of the newly founded republic. In 2018, THAD celebrated its 60th anniversary. Over these six decades, the institute has navigated the shifts and turns of the nation's social and economic development, serving as a witness to the evolution of modern Chinese architectural design. To mark this milestone, THAD and the Tsinghua University School of Architecture are co-hosting the "60 Years of Tsinghua Design Practice" event. This initiative invites professionals and institutions from across the Chinese architectural community to join in a series of exhibitions, forums, lectures, and publications. These activities aim to review the institute's development, reflect on the progress of Chinese architectural design over the past 60 years, and share research, practice, and insights, with the goal of continuing to serve the nation and advancing architectural scholarship and practice.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of THAD, the Tsinghua Design Academic Week will be held on October 25, 2018. The event will feature domestic academicians such as He Jingtang, Wang Jianguo, and Meng Jianmin, alongside international guests including COOP HIMMELB(L)AU and UNStudio. Concurrently, the exhibition "6X10: A History of Modern Architecture at a University Design Institute" will officially open.

"ENERGY THINKING" is a space designed to bring together disciplines such as architecture, engineering, urban planning, and design, alongside business leaders. The goal is to establish dialogues, projects, and educational activities that promote greater knowledge and awareness of renewable energy in our country.

Drawing on the lessons of Albers, painter Lúcia Glaz demonstrates in her new series of paintings a desire to explore new perceptual phenomena, considering the expressive potential of color in its interaction with form. In the same vein as artists of the post-painterly generation (Robert Ryman, Agnes Martin, Brice Marden)—despite the generational gap—the painter tends to view painting as an object rather than an illusion, pursuing a purist reduction that was also the goal of the aforementioned artists as they stripped their canvas experiments down to the essentials.

The next edition of PENSARQ_ Charlas will take place on Saturday, August 25, at 12:00 PM, featuring architect and cultural manager Miriam Villaseñor as a guest speaker. Titled "Appropriating Space Through Inspiration," the talk will foster a collective reflection on the processes of occupying public space through inspiration and both personal and shared identity. The event will begin with a short tour starting at Parque del Refugio on Av. Federalismo, leading to a secret destination. As with all Pensarq_ events, this activity is free and open to the public.
