The Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft (Netherlands) will offer a new online course on the edX digital platform, focusing on urban challenges in emerging countries.
Titled “Rethink the City: New Approaches to Global and Local Urban Challenges,” the course aims to address urban challenges in emerging countries, offering a new perspective to understand and analyze the Global South. Accordingly, the curriculum is structured around three thematic pillars: “Spatial Justice,” “Housing Provision and Management,” and “Urban Resilience.”

Titled 'Leisure' and held as part of the Architectural Culture Lecture Series [CCCA] at EA USS, architects Juan Ignacio Cerda [ELEMENTAL] and Sebastián Cuevas will discuss program and leisure in architecture, including their spaces, users, specific characteristics, and their relationship with the city. On this occasion, the architects will present the Bicentennial Children's Park and the initiative for the creation of pocket plazas, respectively. Additionally, the panel will be moderated by Mario Marchant, a professor at USS/UCh and director of Materia Arquitectura magazine.

The Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) is hosting the "Reciprocal Timber Structures" workshop from May 2 to 11. The workshop will be led by Swiss architect and designer Udo Thönnissen, who has authored several books and articles on the subject.
The 2nd Science, Technology, and Society Symposium, to be held at UNILA/Foz do Iguaçu on May 24th and 25th, focuses on the geopolitics of knowledge, dependency, and coloniality in Latin America. In other words, the symposium aims to bring Latin American Thought on Science, Technology, and Society (PLACTS) closer to the decolonial perspective, viewing it as a theoretical expression created by the South and for the South, specifically addressing issues most relevant to Latin America. Decolonial thought understands the world through its interiorities, geographical space, and dissident bodies, serving as a powerful critique of Western modernity and its inherent colonial violence, as well as the coloniality of power and knowledge.
Over the last two decades, the discipline of landscape has been designated as a model and a medium for the contemporary city. During this time, a range of alternative architecture and urbanism practices have emerged throughout Latin America. Many of these practices explore the ecological and territorial implications of urban projects. The emergence of these practices has coincided with social and political transformations in the region.

In times of debate surrounding unemployment rates and housing deficits, this interactive documentary outlines a period when the industry-housing link was practiced through the proliferation of worker villages in urban "suburbs." The official launch will take place on May 10 and 24.

Building upon the theme of BAG 2016, which focused on Spaces and Contexts, there is a need to question the foundations that define and determine the architecture of the present in order to project toward the future.
The Discrete Structures workshop aims to explore the development of 1:1 material organizations, constrained by the design of geometrically discrete components. During the activity, participants will be introduced to parametric design tools and digital fabrication. The four-day workshop will culminate in the construction of a timber installation on the final day.
