Proyectos Monclova is pleased to announce the solo exhibition Fred Sandback. The Properties of Light (Inside and Outside), running from May 26 to August 18, 2018, in conjunction with the launch of the new publication The Properties of Light. Luis Barragán-Fred Sandback, which will be presented alongside a panel discussion.
During his exhibition at the Museo Tamayo in 2002, sculptor Fred Sandback (1943-2003) visited the Convento de las Capuchinas Sacramentarias (1955) by Luis Barragán (1902-1988). Sandback was deeply impressed by the interplay of light and shadow conceived by Barragán, a formal element of the architect's artistic practice. When Proyectos Monclova presented a Sandback exhibition in 2016, the Fred Sandback Estate proposed the temporary installation of various sculptures in several of Barragán's buildings, an idea supported by their respective owners. Sculptures were installed at the Casa Luis Barragán (1948), the Casa Antonio Gálvez (1955), the Cuadra San Cristóbal (1966-68), and the Casa Gilardi (1975-77).
