Architects Jozé Candido Sampaio de Lacerda and Priscilla Chiesse organized a book with Histories of Rio de Janeiro told by architects, which will be released on December 2nd. The idea was born from each day more, we value our city, mainly through all those who somehow collaborated in making it more beautiful and human. For that, nothing better than the testimonies of some architects who contributed a lot to this valorization.

Counter-territories is an international urban and art competition and project with a research orientation to encourage local architects, artists, researchers and creative practitioners to work and network with international architects and professionals, to re-read and critically understand the current planning and geographic situation of our cities and territories by focusing on its social and cultural contexts, by using (counter-mapping) methodologies to re-documenting and re-drawing cultural and socio-spatial phenomena that are usually not visible in official maps, including the suspended, excluded and silenced phenomena, the dynamics of minorities use of space, the phenomena of placelessness, unhomeliness and loss of identity, hidden layers ... etc.

IDEA-TOPS Organizing Committee has announced the 10th International Space Design Award, calling for marvelous projects of interior design and architecture from around the world. The winners in 18 categories will be selected by an international jury, which is consisted of senior experts in the field, with the principles of being professional, rigorous, fair and just. The number of submissions is unlimited, every participant can submit a few projects completed in 2018-2020.

Where uncertainty, division, separation, havoc, and disease befall communities worldwide, many of us have resorted to embracing ways to bring solace, gratification, indulgence, and joy into the spaces we inhabit. Rather than setting out to work on an issue that directly and explicitly discusses the problems of our times as the focus, our 14th Issue sets out to critically examine the spaces, places, and routines that give us pleasure because of—and despite—the chaos. Reminded of Bernard Tschumi’s words in “The Pleasure of Architecture”, where he posits that “the ancient idea of pleasure still seems sacrilegious to contemporary architectural theory”, this issue of informa aims to study pleasure as a tool with agency.

In conjunction with the forthcoming exhibition Shatr AlMasjid: the Art of Orientation, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) is collaborating with the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture to host a three-day conference to address the historical meaning, culture, evolution and functions of the mosque.

Capital city Podgorica has launched an international competition to obtain the best conceptual urban and architectural design for the Morača riverbed and banks. The vision for the project is to build unique and innovative showrooms, in Uhud area, Dammam city, Saudi Arabia. Our aim is to design a modern, cost-effective space that attracts prominent tenants of F&B and retail shops. The architect should create an integrated design of the project’s architecture, landscape and public indoor area.

Dupont Underground has just launched their second International Design Competition: Re-Think Dupont Circle. One of the key public spaces in Pierre Charles L’Enfant’s famous urban plan for the nation's capital, Dupont Circle was not built out until the late 19th century and has not seen a significant redesign since the 1940’s when the automobile was ascendant. We feel it’s well past time to rethink Dupont Circle as a social, human-centered, public space. The competition covers the immediate urban area of Dupont Circle and it takes place at two scales (micro & macro) that must be interwoven through concept and design. Call for submissions and registration is now open through December 4th, 2020.
