Part of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016’s Collateral Events, Branding Islands Making Nations: On Intangible Assets and Value Propositions in Spatial Practice is a public program and case study competition, drawing attention to the application of political power in spatial practice. Intended to open the discourse on added value in design, Branding Islands Making Nations expands upon the 15th International Architecture Exhibition’s call to arms by inviting an extended field of spatial practitioners to Venice. Consultants and communication designers, marketing and advertising experts will gather to speculate on the role of branding in the making of a place.

Charles and Ray Eames are among the most influential designers of the 20th Century. Enthusiastic and tireless experimenters, this husband and wife duo moved fluidly between the fields of photography, film, architecture, exhibition-making, and furniture and product design. The Eames Office was a hub of activity where they and their collaborators produced a wide array of pioneering designs, communicating their ideas with a boundless creativity that defined their careers. They embraced the joy of trial and error and approached design as a way of life.

In collaboration with The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK) and Saint-Gobain, we invite all skilled, new architects in Denmark who engage through architecture and improve indoor conditions to submit entries for the architectural alumni student competition Saint-Gobain Comfort and Architecture 2016.

The City requests proposals from design service firms or teams of firms with experience with marine facility design and urban open space design. The City seeks to develop schematic designs and estimate costs for new facilities supporting redevelopment of the study area that implement existing policies and goals for the site as articulated in the Program Statement for the Amethyst Lot.

Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2017 is announcing TAB 2017 Urban Installation Programme Open Call, offering emerging architectural talent the opportunity to design and build an experimental wooden folly in the heart of Tallinn. The international open two-stage competition is challenging participants to develop creative designs for a temporary outdoor installation, making innovative use of the fabrication capacities with the Estonian wooden house manufacturers. The aim is to promote synergy between emerging designers and industry.

This is the 59th zonal convention of ZONE-4, National Association of Students of Architecture, hosted by Invertis University, Bareilly.

David Chipperfield CBE, RA, RDI, RIBA will give the AIANY Cultural Facilities Committee’s annual lecture on excellence in museum design. His eponymous firm has developed a diverse international body of work including some the world’s foremost museums and galleries, ranging from private collections such as the Museo Jumex in Mexico City to public institutions such as the revitalized Neues Museum in Berlin. Chipperfield will provide an overview of his firm’s museum projects, and share his observations about the changing role of the museum.

During the Olympics in Rio, on the afternoon of August 13rd, an international landmark design “Olympics”—“Green Skyline • Country Garden • Forest City Landmark Architecture International Design Competition kicked off at Beijing Parkview Green and called for international design powers.
