The dream of homeownership is a cornerstone of Chilean housing policy; however, there are other ways to provide housing beyond those offered by the real estate market. These alternatives address the increasingly urgent need to tackle the scarcity of well-located land, as well as the social and spatial vulnerability of certain territories.

'Architecture as a Medium' will present the work carried out by architect Alfredo Thiermann over the last few years. Through the analysis of historical references and built projects, the lecture will delve into the relationship and intersection between architectural projects and other media, highlighting the importance of material culture in a world where everything seems to lean toward the virtual.

Since 2010, the School of Architecture at Universidad Mayor in Santiago has hosted an annual international workshop, inviting architecture schools from around the world to collaborate for nine days. Fourteen prominent international architects are featured in the exhibition currently on display at the UC Casona Lo Contador (Patio Los Naranjos). On Wednesday, June 6, at 3:15 PM, the official signing of the agreement that will launch the XXI Architecture and Urbanism Biennial 2019 will take place. After two editions in Valparaíso, the event returns to Santiago to be held in the heart of the Matadero Franklin neighborhood, a cultural hub emerging on the outskirts of the city center.

Arístides Benavente, president of Komax and Toteat, will deliver the lecture "Fundación Patagonia de Aysén," in which he will discuss his management efforts in developing the institution—which he founded and currently chairs—dedicated to contributing to the sustainable development of Patagonia through community-based tourism in the Cerro Castillo area.
