Modernfold manufactures operable partitions, glass wall systems and accordion doors for interiors that need to change configuration over time. The Acousti-Seal® Legacy® paired panel operable wall combines the manufacturer's unitized 3-inch (76 mm) platform with a configuration in which panels are hinged together in groups of two, so the wall is deployed in half the movements a single-panel run would require along the same straight line.
Setup and storage
Hinging panels in pairs shortens the time needed to open or close the partition and removes the need for an auxiliary storage track or added support at the stacking end. The wall travels in one straight line and stacks at the end of the run, so the plan should reserve a pocket or dedicated storage area on that axis. Where the program calls for branching layouts or several division lines from the same set of panels, the single panel configuration remains the more flexible option.
Panel construction and acoustics
Panels are unitized on a roll-formed and welded 16-gauge steel frame with steel faces, keeping alignment and surface flatness across repeated cycles. Available ratings are 52, 50 or 28 STC, with hanging weights between 6 and 11 lbs/sq.ft. depending on the rating specified. The 28 STC option provides visual and spatial separation at a lower cost, appropriate where the divided areas are not used simultaneously; the 50 and 52 ratings cover simultaneous use of adjoining rooms.
Sealing, dimensions and track
The system closes with a fixed sweep at the top and, at the bottom, an automatic A2 2-inch seal or manual SureSet™ seals in 2-inch or 4-inch depths, the deeper options absorbing greater variation in floor level. Opening width is unlimited and maximum height reaches 24 feet (7,315 mm), with track options #17, #14 and #30. The system is compatible with the Modernfold Truss System® where the existing structure above the ceiling cannot carry the partition load directly.
Circulation and finishes
Pass doors are available in a single leaf of matching construction. Panel faces can be specified in standard and premium fabric; standard, premium and heavy-duty vinyl; carpet; marker and tack board; plastic laminate; the client's own material; or uncovered.
