Modernfold manufactures operable partitions, glass wall systems and accordion doors for interiors that need to change configuration over time. The Acousti-Seal® Legacy® single panel operable wall is the manufacturer's mid-range acoustic platform, built on unitized panels that are suspended individually from an overhead track and positioned one at a time. Its slim 3-inch (76 mm) profile occupies less stacking depth than heavier platforms, which reduces the size of the storage pocket the project needs to reserve.
Unitized panel construction
Panels are assembled as complete units on a roll-formed and welded 16-gauge steel frame with steel faces, rather than as an assembly of separate components. The result is a rigid panel that keeps its alignment and surface flatness under repeated handling — relevant in schools and community facilities where the wall is operated by rotating staff rather than by a dedicated team. Hanging weight ranges from 6 to 11 lbs/sq.ft. depending on the acoustic rating specified.
Acoustic options
The system is available at 52, 50 or 28 STC. The upper two ratings cover the usual requirement for dividing simultaneous activities — adjacent classrooms, meeting rooms in use at the same time — while the 28 STC option is a visual and spatial division with limited acoustic separation, specified where budget matters more than sound isolation or where the divided areas are not in simultaneous use. Sealing is by fixed sweep at the top and, at the bottom, either an automatic A2 2-inch seal or manual SureSet™ seals in 2-inch or 4-inch depths for floors with greater variation.
Dimensions and track
Opening width is unlimited and maximum height reaches 30 feet (9,144 mm). Track options include #17, #14, RT100 and RT200, and the system is compatible with the Modernfold Truss System®, which allows the partition to be supported where the existing structure above the ceiling cannot carry the load directly — a frequent condition in renovations and in buildings not originally designed for a movable wall. Because panels travel individually, the layout can include intersections and multiple storage directions from the same run.
Circulation and finishes
Pass doors are available in single or double leaf, built in matching construction so the door reads as part of the wall plane when closed. Panel faces can be specified in standard and premium fabric; standard, premium and heavy-duty vinyl; carpet; marker and tack board; plastic laminate; the client's own material; or uncovered.
