ULHT (Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias) organized an international workshop on the theme of waterfront design (European Workshop Waterfront Urban Design) EWWUD. The workshop was coordinated by Pedro Ressano Garcia.
This event took place between 14 and 28 March 2010 and has several international specialists in nine foreign universities.
The 47 foreign students with 14 student from Portugal were mixed and distributed into eight different groups, where eight final projects were presented. You can see all the boards after the break.

WISA Wooden Design Hotel / Pieta-Linda Auttila WISA Wooden Design Hotel is an architectural gem of wood situated in the maritime heart of Helsinki, capital of Finland. Stephan Jaklitsch is the architect behind Marc Jacobs’ stores around the world, with ongoing projects in Tokyo, Chicago, Macau, Singapore, Mexico City, Thailand and Hong Kong. On this book you will find several store designs (for Marc Jacobs and other brands), with several interior details presented in large format.
But Stephan’s work is not only restricted to the retail area. Residential projects and urban competitions by his practice are also included on this book, sharing a common denominator with the retail projects: good quality of the drawings.
A complete monograph, but also a good reference book for retail inspiration.

Immuring, a new exhibition by Hong Kong-based architecture firm davidclovers, will be on view from June 4 through July 18, 2010, in the SCI-Arc Gallery at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Immuring invigorates the relationship between architectural graphic and architectural mass through the re-examination of fresco in a contemporary context.
Many cities around the world are facing the challenges of sustainable living and development and are exploring ways to enhance their ability to manage an uncertain future. In the developing world these challenges are often due to increasing concentrations of vulnerable people in vulnerable locations adjacent to rivers, coasts and in low-lying zones that are more floodprone.

Linked Hybrid / Steven Holl Architects The 220,000 square meter pedestrian-oriented Linked Hybrid complex, sited adjacent to the site of old city wall of Beijing, aims to counter the current urban developments in China by creating a new twenty-first century porous urban space, inviting and open to the public from every side. Filmic urban public space; around, over and through multifaceted spatial layers, as well as the many passages through the project, make the Linked Hybrid an “open city within a city” (read more…)
At an official ceremony on March 23, 2010 the contract for the construction of the new Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation Headquarters was signed in Hanoi. The Cement Industry Corporation’s head office is the first project for Jürgen Engel’s architectural studio in Vietnam to be actually built. The new premises for the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation, which comprise a five-storey pedestal building and an approx. 135-meter high tower emerged as the victor in a competition as early as April 2008.
We found out through Archpaper’s Twitter (@archpaper), they are calling everyone to sign a petition to help save Remington Arms factory in Bridgeport, a Tate-worthy redbrick beauty. The Remington Arms factory in Bridgeport, Connecticut is a spectacular 1.5 million-square-foot structure of 13 interconnected buildings stretching over 76 acres. Now its future is imperiled.

Vakko Headquarters and Power Media Center / REX Last year we presented you this interesting project by REX during its construction stage, where you could see how an unused structure was converted into the new headquarters for Vakko, integrated with a new complex steel structure. The Milan Furniture Fair started last week and ends today. It is the most important design event of the year. During the event, Brazilian based Campana Brothers (Fernando & Humberto Campana) unveiled The Tasting Gloriette, a collaboration for Veuve Clicquot. The structure is a contemporary version of a gloriette for the residence’s garden.
Dedicated to outdoor tasting and champagne degustation, it will be on display at the Milan Furniture Fair until today at the Superstudio Piu – Via Tortona 27, Milano. More photos after the break.
