2017 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence: Call for Entries

The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence (RBA) celebrates transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to our nation’s cities. Winners offer creative placemaking solutions that transcend the boundaries between architecture, urban design and planning and showcase innovative thinking about American cities. One Gold Medal of $50,000 and four Silver Medals of $10,000 will be awarded. 

Call for Applications: 2017 Carter Manny Award

The Graham Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2017 Carter Manny Award, the foundation's annual award for Ph.D. students working on dissertation topics in architecture. Applications are due November 15, 2016.

Established in 1996, the Carter Manny Award supports dissertation research and writing by promising scholars whose projects have architecture as their primary focus and the potential to shape architectural discourse.

Apply to the Strelka Institute: New Educational Programme Launched

The Strelka Institute for Architecture, Media and Design has launched the enrollment campaign for the postgraduate education program. The theme of the 7th academic year at Strelka is entitled The New Normal. Research will focus on the new contemporary condition, which has emerged because of the rapid development of technology—including machine intelligence, biotechnology, automation, alternative spaces created in VR and AR—and define new paths for urban design and development.

The Architect’s Newspaper Annual Best of Design Awards

The Best Of Design Awards is a unique project-based awards program that showcases great buildings and building elements. Entrants are invited to submit completed works in 26 categories.

The BoD jury will judge entries based on several criteria—strength of the presentation, evidence of innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, and, most importantly, good design. Bauwelt Award 2017: First Works

The Bauwelt Award (consisting of 6 awards of 5000 Euros each), awarded this year for the 10th time in cooperation with Messe München, applies to all categories of “First Work” – from the interior design of shops and stores to prototypal constructions, from public housing projects to the restructuring of a public space and to temporary interventions - and a not-yet-realized project with socially relevant approach for the advancement award (award optional). Qualified for submission is every first work the submitter has realized on his or her own responsibility and which has been completed after September 30th, 2013.

The Center for Architecture and AIANY are currently accepting applications for the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant. The purpose of the grants is to further the personal and professional development of an architect in early or mid-career through travel. Travel plans should be focused on a selected topic of interest to the individual, rather than a part of a larger humanitarian or institutional endeavor. If appropriate, the winner may be asked to present at the Center for Architecture upon return.

Call for Applications: H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship

The Society of Architectural Historians’ prestigious H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship will be offered for 2016 and will allow a recent graduate or emerging scholar to study by travel for one year. The fellowship is not for the purpose of doing research for an advanced academic degree. Instead, Professor Brooks intended the recipient to study by travel and contemplation while observing, reading, writing, or sketching.

SAH 2017 Publication Awards

The Society of Architectural Historians is accepting nominations for its 2017 Publication Awards. The program includes five awards that will be presented at the Society's 2017 Annual International Conference (Glasgow, June 7-11). The deadline to submit is Monday, August 1, 2016.

Olson Kundig Creative Exchange Residency – an invitation to collaborate and impact our collective practices by developing ideas together which we wouldn’t arrive at independently.

RTF Sustainability Awards 2016

Re-thinking The Future (RTF) was born from the idea of creating a new window on international trends in architecture and design that looks on to radical solutions for the present day problems facing the domain.
