Olson Kundig Creative Exchange Residency – an invitation to collaborate and impact our collective practices by developing ideas together which we wouldn’t arrive at independently.

This is a residency within the offices of Olson Kundig, a 150 person design firm based in Seattle, Washington, USA. With a fifty year history of collaboration, our primary focus has been on architecture, interiors, exhibit work, product design, and landscape design. We consider ourselves generalists and invite challenges. Past collaborators have included artists, choreographers, writers, chefs, scientists, fashion designers, and horticulturists.

The residency is to be for a minimum of two weeks and up to a maximum of four weeks, of time spent within our office. This time need not be contiguous, either by necessity or design. We request that the overall duration of the residency be completed within an eight week time period.

Surprise us. We welcome the opportunity to meet new people with distinct ideas and specialties. The nature of our practice has led to the development of a wide network of creative thinkers, makers and innovators who we hope to introduce to our resident in order to potentially augment the residency.

As part of the Olson Kundig Creative Exchange Residency, Olson Kundig will provide a grant of 10,000USD.

This grant comes without restrictions. We will reserve a primary working space of about 200 sq ft which, depending on the discipline/preferences of the resident, could be modified. Our office also includes a small wood shop, 3d printer, and laser cutter, which could be made available.

Expectations towards the resident

  • Resident to give a presentation to our office during one of our weekly Monday morning meetings.
  • Resident responsible for the cost of materials during residency.
  • Resident to be responsible for travel and accommodations while participating in the residency.
