The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects (NLAA) is hosting Architecture Week from October 5 to October 11, 2019. This year will mark the third edition of Architecture Week for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The NL Architecture Week includes many activities that promote architecture and create a venue to engage the public in a discussion about the future of our built environment.
All events are free and open to the public and include LEGO competitions for kids, sketching session, public lectures, walking tour and a closing reception.

This year, the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 is announcing "Blueprint for Better" as the theme of the event. Held in Las Vegas on 6-8 June, the occasion encourages local components to "reflect upon those areas in their own communities" and use the opportunity to solve problems and improve communities themselves.
The organizers explain the "Blueprint for Better" theme as the recognition and response to the issue of the lack of affordable housing and the growing problem of homelessness. Participants are encouraged to explore these topics and create proposals for solutions on how to help the homeless and build a better and progressive community in the 21st century.

The Landhaus Lemke is a private residence designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1932, while he was working as the director of the Bauhaus. Completed one year later, the Mies van der Rohe House is filled with rich history and is focused today on organizing exhibitions by contemporary international artists in dialogue to the architecture of the house.

Architects of the future use Carnival festivities to end outdated ideas
Hello Wood asks entrants to its intentional summer school to consider the topics that contemporary architecture should be answering.
The annual festivities of Carnival, see communities coming together to celebrate the end of a period of time and the beginning of a new era. Proposals should have this in mind since the summer school will say farewell to its past ten years with its own festival, culminating in a parade with the installations as the stars. Performative creations are a much greater focus for the Hello Wood summer school this year than ever before, meaning portable architecture will be an integral aspect of the successful proposals. This parade will even see past workshop leaders and participants returning to take part in the procession, which will lead down into the nearby village joining a local cultural festival with thousands of attendants of the general public.

30 thumbs from the Murcutt Master Class - Architecture Foundation Australia
Commenced in 2001, this annual event has been attended by architects and academics from over 80 nations. The Glenn Murcutt Master Class is a two-week residential studio program held in Australia. Week one is held at ‘Riversdale’, the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre, a magnificent rural retreat south of Sydney - an award-winning building designed by Murcutt in 1999 and described by Thomas J. Pritzker as a ‘Masterwork’. Glenn personally leads the Master Class, stays at ‘Riversdale’ with the participants and leads the program. Other tutors on the Master Class include seminal Australian architect and educator Richard Leplastrier, award winning and internationally published architect Peter Stutchbury, leading academic and practitioner Professor Brit Andresen, and Master Class Convener Lindsay Johnston, former Dean of Architecture, University of Newcastle, Australia. Week two of the 2018 Master Class will be held again in Sydney. The Master Class is open to practising architects, academics, postgraduates and some senior architecture students. In its 27th year, Pasadena Heritage will present the Annual Craftsman Weekend on November 9-11, 2018. The Weekend will feature house tours of notable Craftsman properties, along with bus and walking tours of the surrounding neighborhoods. Other events scheduled include a Show and Sale with exhibitors of antique and contemporary furniture and decorative arts, a silent auction, workshops and presentations. In addition, Pasadena Heritage will be offering exclusive receptions at historic locations throughout the weekend.
The Governor Markham Landmark District is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Pasadena, and residences included in the District parallel Pasadena’s growth from incorporation as a city in 1886. Ninety-four percent of the homes were constructed between 1891 and 1933. This area became an official Landmark District in 2005 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, nominated by Pasadena Heritage.

One of the most frequent problems in slum areas is the unrelenting flood. Trying to respond to the problem, this competition invites Architecture students to contribute to designing a "Floor Aids House" which is used to accommodate people who are in slum areas during the flood.
