In partnership with the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), a call for entries for the 2016 Chicago Prize is taking place as of November 29, 2016 with the announcement of the winning entries on February 2, 2017.

The 2017 edition of the BIM Competition offers candidates the opportunity to reflect on the center city of the community of Saint-Prix. Call for Submission: Place and Displacement - A Marketplace in Refugee Settlements
Challenge We challenge the innovative minds around the globe to design a marketplace with an operational plan for a vulnerable population (adolescents, single mothers, children, people with trauma, etc) in one of the refugee settlements below. The marketplace should be able to run for long-term, i.e. 3-5 years, and benefit as many people as possible. The overall budget limit for both construction and operation of the entire marketplace is $100,000.
Opportunity In light of the current surge of refugees in the international arena, refugee livelihoods in transitional settlements have become a crucial topic in contemporary geopolitical relations.

TESTING-GROUND journal invites contributions for its second issue, other sides.
What resides on the other side can cause fear, concern, intrigue, delight and fascination. Neighbouring and distant lands are destinations to visit, invade, occupy and separate ourselves from. Many territorial borders are marked with walls and fences or have settled along rivers and ridges of mountains. These socially and architecturally constructed landscapes contrast with cities and towns which unite otherwise separated territories. The second issue of TESTING-GROUND focuses on concepts, structures, devices and architecture which define or integrate difference.
Young Architects Competitions YAC and Marlegno s.r.l. launch Castle Resort, an open architectural competition aiming at the landscape renewal of the area around the Castle off Roccamandolfi, in Southern Italy. The competition is in cooperation with the Italian State Property Agency – Italian Government, the Municipality of Roccamandolfi, Touring Club, Associazione Italiana Confindustria Alberghi, the University of Bologna. The internationally-renowned jury gathers, among the others, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Todd Saunders, Alain Laurens of “La Cabane Perchée”. A total of € 20.000 in prize money will be awarded and winner projects will be published on international architecture and design platforms.

Empresa Portuaria Austral (the Southern Port Company) of Chile invites all Chilean and foreign architects to participate in the international competition for the design of the master plan and preliminary design of the Port of Mageallan´es´ new International Passenger Terminal in the city of Punta Arenas. All Chilean or foreign architects that participate must include on their team at least one architect that is currently a member of the Chilean Institute of Architects (Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile A.G.).
The winner of the competition will receive the first prize and the commission to develop the final draft of the International Passenger Terminal (TIP) project.

In those areas in which spontaneous and unauthorized construction is widespread, overwhelming good architecture, one should consider that informal phenomena are a tangible manifestation of the social relationship with built environment. Structural or decorative elements are figured out and crafted to quickly respond to two important needs: spatial appropriation and self-representation of the builder. Often lying in the grey area of building regulations. Those elements adapt their form to any concrete frame construction and the modus operandi of the builders; absorb imperfections of the self-made building; speed up work; reuse or recycle existing materials.

Participants must design a structure that complies with the requirements that specify the rules of this competition in terms of time, cost and characteristics; considered as a fundamental part to evaluate the proposal on thematic approach should be discussions within the structure will be carried out, this way the MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion will become a traveling purposeful device that every year open global space competition from generating ideas that revolve around the development process of architecture and the city, which in turn will become the benchmark per se of each edition of the Festival of Architecture and City.
