64th Annual Progressive Architecture (P/A) Awards

The Progressive Architecture (P/A) Awards recognize unbuilt projects demonstrating overall design excellence and innovation. Judging will take place in December 2016. Winning entries will be notified in December 2016, published in the February 2017 issue of ARCHITECT, and honored at a celebration in New York in February 2017.

Call for Submissions: Blue Clay Country Spa

The Blue Clay Country Spa architecture competition, in partnership with SRED Global real estate developers, is tasking participants with presenting designs for a countryside guest house that would specialise in providing health treatments using this unique and naturally occurring organic product. Blue clay has long been used in restorative treatments, and provides health and beauty benefits in its naturally occurring form. Blue Clay has an exceptionally high mineral content and been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. The research is still being carried out to this day to further understand the clay’s antibacterial properties.

Call for Entries: Kenyan Children’s Village Masterplan

The One Heart Foundation is calling all architects interested in contributing to a life changing international design project. The Australian based ‘for-purpose’ organisation has announced a design competition offering entrants the opportunity to design and masterplan an eco-village for abandoned and orphaned children in Kenya.

Tokyo Metro Ginza Line “Trend Area” Station Design Competition

Regarding the renewal project of Ginza Line whose 90th anniversary will come in 2017, Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. has been holding a series of design competitions since December 2012, which invites various ideas to make the Ginza Line more attractive.

Following the last competition for “Business Area,” the 5th edition of TOKYO METRO GINZA LINE STATION DESIGN COMPETITION will feature “TREND AREA” of the Aoyama-itchome, Gaiemmae, and Omote-sando stations. Tokyo Metro invites proposals widely.

Call for Applications: Postgraduate Master in Curatorship of Architecture and Design

The role of the Curator requires a comprehensive and multifaceted training that allows them to move in different contexts and platforms. The contemporary Curator investigates and identifies relevant issues and their relationships to, then, launch through exhibitions a narrative capable of catching the audience’s interest. A Curator’s work, therefore, encourages reflection and promotes new ways of perceiving and understanding architecture and design. The Master in Curatorship of Architecture and Design at IUAV (Venice, Italy) aims to train professionals capable of developing curatorial projects with a solid foundation in theory and critical thinking, coupled with a strong knowledge of strategies in exhibition making.

International Open Call: XX Bienal de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de Chile 2017

Better Insight, Onsite: International Design Competition for the Creation of Worksite Information Modules

The Ville de Montréal (City of Montreal, Qc, Canada) is launching an international competition for the design of worksite information modules.

The purpose of the modules—prototypes of which will be installed in summer 2017 on three specific sites—is to mitigate the adverse impacts of worksites on the quality of life of residents and the economic vitality of surrounding areas.

Although these transitions are essential steps in the renewal of cities for the 21st century, worksites are disruptive both to the economic activities of business communities and to the daily lives of citizens.

Open Call: 2017 LAND ART COMPETITION

Nka Foundation invites submissions from creative practitioners and organizations dedicated to community placemaking to participate in its 2017 Land Art Competition. The competition is open to landscape architects, artists, curators, designers, architects, urban planners, structural engineers, university students and others from around the world to submit ideas for large-scale and site-specific public art installations based on site in rural Ghana. The submitted entries can be functional or nonfunctional works but must aim at creating a truly unique experience that becomes emblematic of what an arts village is and how it needs to function as a PLACE.

Beam Camp, a specialized summer camp for building and collaboration located in Strafford, NH, announces its annual international search to find its 2017 Beam Projects. The large-scale collaborative projects are realized by Beam campers, aged 10-17, and staff at the camp’s 106-acre facility in Strafford, New Hampshire.

Projects are budgeted at $12,500. Winning designers receive a $3,000 honorarium, travel costs, and are invited to visit camp during the project’s production.

Call for Proposals: Opportunity Space

Opportunity Space is an international design-build competition challenging multidisciplinary teams to propose a temporary, mobile structure that will support economic opportunity and social inclusion in Malmö, Sweden.

The winning team will receive a $10,000 prize, a $5,000 travel stipend, and up to $25,000 to cover the costs of implementing their proposal, including costs for materials and insurance.

Call for Submissions: SITE DWELLING

ARKxSITE is pleased to announce the SITE DWELLING international architecture ideas competition for architecture students and young architects.

The SITE DWELLING, located on the cliff of the bay, in the village of Salir do Porto, Portugal, aims to create a secluded destination, a place of retreat to engage with the landscape while providing shelter from the natural elements.  This is a place to stay and inhabit for a few days, offering visitors a unique experience in a very special setting; visitors must leave the space as they found it, empty.
