Organized by Czech collective Arch for People, ModulARCH is a new festival of modular architecture to be held in Brno, Czech Republic this April. The festival will explore all aspects of modular architecture from the ecological to the economic, and discuss the role of the typology within the contemporary city. Learn more about the three day conference after the break.

The three day program of ModulARCH will unfold on the grounds of Brno's Moravian gallery, and comprise three distinct blocks. In succession, the festival will address modular architecture's relationship with the public space, the modular EXPO 2015 pavilion in Milan, and the social necessity of modular architecture, alongside its role in public buildings. Two evening lectures will be given by Chilean architect Sebastian Irarrazaval, whose practice and research has dealt closely with modular architecture and construction.

Remaining lectures will be delivered by a broad selection of international architects and academics in related fields well-versed in the typology, with representatives of public institutions and civil society activist groups also included in the program. Arch for People hopes to present the "potential of broader impact beyond the professional community. The aim is not only discussion of modular options, but popularization of architecture as such." Exhibitions and six modular public space installations will supplement the festival program, with the intent of generating public discussion of modular architecture.

Targeted predominantly towards practitioners and other professionals, the festival proceedings will be collated in a formal publication following the event's completion. A competition and workshop for student and graduate architects up to 5 years post-graduation will run concurrent to the event, and combine modular urbanism with considerations of "social living, cohousing and art communities." Headed by Irarrazaval, entry into the workshop will be through selection via portfolio.

ModulARCH will run between April 23 and April 25. Find out more about the conference program here.
