2020 AIANY | Center for Architecture Arnold W. Brunner Grant for Mid-Career Architects

The Center for Architecture is now accepting applications for the 2020 Arnold W. Brunner Grant. This grant is awarded to mid-career architects for advanced study in any area of architectural investigation that will contribute to the knowledge, teaching, or practice of the art and science of architecture. The proposed investigation is to result in a publicly available written work, design project, research paper, or other form of presentation to be offered at the Center for Architecture. Previous topics of research have ranged from the impact of American architects on Cuba’s historic built environment to the importance of public restrooms in creating greater social equity. Projects are judged based on their engagement with contemporary local and global architectural issues and the usefulness of the research’s product.

Call for Submissions: A3 - Archnet Prize for Writing about African Architecture

A3/Archives of African Architecture and the Aga Khan Documentation Center, MIT Libraries are looking for people who are able to bring the general public in Africa and beyond to a mainstream understanding of architecture and its relation to culture through writing about built heritage. The recipients of this award will join the A3 – Archnet team in this project, starting with a fully funded weeklong trip to Boston, Massachusetts to work with the staff of the Aga Khan Documentation Center, MIT Libraries, to build a database on African Architecture.

Free Online Course on Urban Challenges in the Global South Offers one Scholarship for a Summer School in TU Delft, the Netherlands

"Rethink the City; New Approaches to Global and Local Urban Challenges" is a free online course given by Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. After two successful versions with more than 17.000 participants, a new version will start on February 19, 2020. The course received the Excellence in Teaching Award 2017 bestowed by AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning).

INTERNATIONAL IDEAS AND DESIGN PROJECT COMPETITION FOR LABOR, PEACE AND DEMOCRACY MEMORIAL SQUARE AND PLACE

On 10 October 2015, Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (CPTUT / DİSK), Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (CPETU / KESK), Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (UCTEA / TMMOB) and Turkish Medical Association (TMA / TTB) called a meeting for a Labor, Peace and Democracy in Ankara. Thousands of people across Turkey met at Ankara Train Station. 103 citizens lost their lives in the two terrorist bombings that materialized right after the march started, hundreds were injured and thousands were stayed alive by minutes only. This attack, the bloodiest terrorist attack in the history of the Turkish Republic, has gone down in history as a crime against humanity; and the intent of the massacre, embodying its time and space, inflicted a deep wound on public conscience.
