A new commemoration of the 1939 earthquake will take place throughout the city on January 24. The meeting point is the Plaza de Armas at 9:00 PM, where registered attendees will receive a complimentary reflective backpack.
Following this, a heritage bicycle tour will visit significant sites associated with the event that changed the city forever. At each stop, an archival photograph showing the site at the time of the earthquake will be projected, accompanied by commentary from the guides. The bike tour will pass by the San Francisco Church, the Los Carmelitas Church, the Old Normal School, the San Juan de Dios Chapel, and the Market.
Supertrama is a public art program in Extremadura, Spain, that promotes artistic experimentation rooted in specific environments, their urban (or rural) configuration, architecture, historical memory, and social fabric. The program fosters cultural growth across the Extremaduran territory in collaboration with architects, artists, and creatives working in the field of public art.
Biofabrication State aims to provide an overview of academic exercises on this subject conducted at the Universidad Católica and Columbia University. CineCubo is the film club hosted by the Institute of Architects of Brazil, aiming to foster dialogue between audiovisual and architectural languages to broaden and debate perspectives on the city. On the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM, CineCubo screens films followed by a discussion at the IAB-SP headquarters. The construction industry is one of the largest sectors in Brazil, with high rates of non-professional labor covering a large percentage of urban construction, conceived without the supervision of a technical professional, such as an architect or engineer. The high costs associated with construction lead a large segment of society to seek alternatives for building their homes. Throughout this process, these individuals acquire informal technical knowledge in the construction field; however, the lack of specific design and planning leads to problems such as poorly utilized, dimly lit, and poorly ventilated spaces, a lack of alternatives for material use, unnecessary demolitions, and extended construction timelines that generate expenses and unforeseen issues.
