Dwelling: Natures and Forms in Diverse and Adverse Contexts
The diversity of approaches in housing studies reflects its nature, which, beyond issues related to the function of housing as shelter, involves design quality, the use of new technologies, and sustainable construction, as well as personal and subjective aspects. When addressing housing, a building cannot be considered merely as an isolated object; understanding the urban spatial context and the impacts of its implementation on the urban landscape is essential, as is the study of diverse forms of dwelling, the right to housing, and, consequently, current demands for the provision of social housing in rural areas, high-risk locations, and the rehabilitation/redevelopment of areas degraded by natural disasters. It is, therefore, a multidisciplinary field of study.
