The FIBRA Award rewards teams that incorporate plant-based materials in their buildings while proposing innovative solutions, giving added value to local resources and know-how, and taking into account aesthetic values. The ambition of its initiators is to promote the current dynamics that encourage the use of locally-sourced bio-based materials.
AAICO (Architecture and Art International Congress at Oporto) is an initiative by AMAG, in partnership with Casa de Arquitectura, FAUP - Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, SERRALVES Foundation, and the institutional support of Ordem dos Arquitectos.
The initiative was created with the aim of promoting the practice and the disciplines of architecture and art, to foster, develop and strengthen relationships between architects, designers, artists, students and the community in general. This week devoted to architecture and art will bring together more than 50 architects and artists of international prestige: Tony Fretton, Marc Dubois, Francis Kéré, Carmody Groarke, Manuel Aires Mateus, Eduardo Souto Moura, Jose Pedro Croft, Fernanda Fragateiro. This promising program is divided into three major periods throughout the day, including conferences, workshops, and exhibitions.

The term Low-resolution precedes Houses in order to make the exhibition-goer think about houses through this double technological and representational-aesthetic lens. All 44 houses exhibited fall into one or more of the following categories of Low-resolution: first, houses that vaguely resemble houses, using familiar house elements, such as pitched roofs, etc.; second, houses that appear to be constructed, in that you can see the construction, joints and the materials, there is a sort of cheap unfinished quality to the work; and third, houses that are composed of basic geometric primitives—squares, circles, triangles—arranged in a non-compositional or abstract manner. By these terms Low-resolution is against high-resolution architectural sophistication, gestural complex curvature, and models of architecture focused on seamlessness....
The city of Seogwipo is holding the “International Design Competition for Landscape of Columnar Jointing Area, Jeju” to improve the stunning scenery of the columnar jointing area near Jungmun Daepo Coast that reveals Jeju’s unique geological features, culture, and natural landscape.

“A new school, probably the only indigenous one in the United States” is how the architect Donald MacDonald described Bruce Goff and Herb Greene’s influence on the University of Oklahoma School of Architecture from 1947 through the 1960s. The famous architects transformed the ways architecture was learned, taught and practiced, creating a uniquely American architectural style now represented in an archive at the University of Oklahoma Libraries and displayed in an exhibition in Bizzell Memorial Library.
The advent of robotics in the creative and construction industries has led to an amazing revolution, changing not just how things are designed and made, but also transforming knowledge cultures, politics and economics that surround them. As such, the ROB|ARCH 2018 conference – hosted by the NCCR Digital Fabrication and ETH Zurich – will continue this path, developing and revealing novel insights, applications and impacts of this transformation within the scientific, creative, and entrepreneurial domains, including, for example, architecture, structural design, civil and process engineering, art and design, and robotics. A particular focus lies upon cross-disciplinary approaches and applications, providing state-of-the-art knowledge, techniques and methods of robotics not just in individual areas of exploration, but also beyond. These ideals aspire to complement the transformation processes of emerging robotic research and applications, and to redefine cross-disciplinary work in an era of global digitalisation and knowledge transfer. Key topics and issues of ROB|ARCH 2018 include autonomous control systems, advanced construction, collaborative design tools, computerised materials and structures, adaptive sensing and actuation, on-site and cooperative robotics, machine-learning, human-machine interaction, large-scale robotic fabrication and networked workflows.

For the eleventh time the Bauwelt Award “First Works” will be tendered this year – from now on you can submit your first work. The Bauwelt Award (consisting of 6 awards of 5000 Euros each) applies to all categories of “First Work” – from the interior design of shops and stores to prototypal constructions, from public housing projects to the restructuring of a public space and to temporary interventions. Qualified for submission is every first work the submitter has realized on his or her own responsibility and which has been completed after September 30th, 2015.
Equity matters. As India becomes an increasingly urban nation, our cities require critical discourse on how to make housing, infrastructure, public space, and opportunity available to all citizens. This third edition of Z-Axis – the biennial conference organized by the Charles Correa Foundation – will draw on expertise from around the globe to debate and articulate the agency of architecture and planning in creating equitable cities.
The Charles Correa Memorial Lecture will be delivered at the opening session on Thursday, September 6 by Richard Burdett, professor of Urban Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the director of LSE Cities and the Urban Age project.

One of the most frequent problems in slum areas is the unrelenting flood. Trying to respond to the problem, this competition invites Architecture students to contribute to designing a "Flood Aids House" which is used to accommodate people who are in slum areas during the flood.
Tamayouz Excellence Award launched the “Baghdad Design Centre,” an international architectural competition to transform the current unused site of the Old Governorate Building into the Baghdad Design Centre in the city's Cultural District; Al-Rusafa. This year’s competition has been under the spotlight as stakeholders and the architectural community in the country urged the local authorities to halt implementation of their own scheme for the site and wait for the results and recommendations of the competition.
In partnership with Make Architects and Sir John Soane’s Museum, the World Architecture Festival (WAF) has announced the call for entries for the second edition of The Architecture Drawing Prize. Launched in 2017, the prize is conceived to celebrate and showcase the significance of drawing as a tool in capturing and communicating architectural ideas.
The Architecture Drawing Prize embraces the creative use of digital tools and digitally-produced renderings, while recognising the enduring importance of hand drawing. The organisers invite entries of all types and forms: from technical or construction drawings to cutaway or perspective views – and anything in between. Drawings may, by varying degrees, be entirely speculative or relate to real projects.
The Union of Moscow architects invites professionals to the participation in The Open Architectural and Town-planning Competition “The Activation of the Kazan City Urban Functions in the Water Area of the Volga Bend”.
Kazan is a large city in the Volga region with a picturesque landscape and a rich variety of coastal zones. The embankment in a complex with a river facade forms the river gate to the city. However, inefficient use in combination with various unfavourable factors leads to the isolation of the coastal zones from the city itself and turns them – instead of being potential points of attraction – into desolate spaces with an unfavourable environment.
The Locomotive Peninsula was formed as a result of land flooding by the waters of the artificial Kuibyshev Reservoir in 1957. To protect the city, the dams were built. A pedestrian embankment was arranged together with the places for a mass recreation of the population.
Over the years, the territory has fallen into decay and lost its attractiveness because of the isolation produced by railways. Today its use is limited.
The Competition is arranged to get a conceptual, structural and functional spatial organisation of the territory in the water area of the Volga bend. The new spaces should include a developed recreational component and be rich of public, tourist and cultural-sports functions.
The Competition is held within the framework of the International Festival “Eco-Shore”. The Festival is a unique international annual project devoted to the innovative ideas of the urban, architecture and design development of coastal areas.
