Seoul Metropolitan Government is in process of planning on “Seoul Yeoui-Naru Ferry Terminal”And for this, “Seoul Yeoui-Naru Ferry Terminal Design Competition” will be held and announced on February 9. Total prize amount will be approximately 1,045,000,000 KRW, and the winner will be granted a right to sign the design contract.

The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA) has organized “Architect’1986” exhibition to promote professionalism in architecture since 1986 (except for 1990) until today or 30 times, with around 350,000 visitors annually. In 2017, ASA board members (2016-2018) agreed to organize “Architect’17 or 31st of its kind from Tuesday 2-Sunday 7 May, 2017 at 1-3 Challenger Hall, Impact Muang Thong Thani, Chaeng Wattana Road, Banmai Sub-district, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province, in accordance with the following objectives.

The world is witnessing resurgence in the popularity of vinyl records. The vinyl renaissance reminds us that records, unlike downloaded digital music files, are tangible objects that can be collected and experienced in a more tangible and personal way. In 2014, some 900,000 vinyl albums were sold in the UK alone, indicating that digital is not the only way to listen to music.

From treatises to TED talks; postcards to propaganda; etchings to drawings, films, and blogs, architecture moves in diverse and curious ways. It is these currencies, which give architecture its agency, its authority and life. And yet, despite the varied modes of its circulation, the majority of architecture’s discursive knowledge reaches only a familiar audience. While contemporary means of information production and dispersal continue to exponentially grow and quicken, the circle of professional and discursive associations remains confined. Circulation, distribution, and access to knowledge are not exclusive matters of the discipline. Rather they extend past architectural limits to catalyze inquiries into hidden geographies and infrastructure, restricted access, and equity.

Advances in Architecture and Civil Engineering are the order of the day with the rapid industrialization and urbanization seen in developed and developing nations. Innovative design and construction practices are challenging tasks to the architects and engineers to meet the ever growing demands of society. The conference is the premiere forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in the fields of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The conference will bring together leading researchers, architects, engineers and scientists in this domain of interest from around the world.

The Stone Barn Meditation Camp architecture competition is a partnership with SRED property developers to create a multipurpose recreational space. Participants are tasked with presenting ideas for a venue, which focuses on wellness tourism and offers holistic outlets such as meditation and yoga.

Warsaw has just announced a competition to prepare an architectural conceptual design of a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, which will connect both shores of the Vistula by the Karowa street.

“This will be our showcase and first passage of the kind for pedestrians and cyclists over the Vistula. Over the last years, we have done a lot to bring it closer to the locals – we have built lanes and boulevards, beaches and cafés. A new bridge, in accordance with the Warsaw Mobility Policy, will substantially improve the quality of life for cyclists and pedestrians,” says Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of the City of Warsaw.

Works of India is an archive of drawings, sketches, artefacts, models, tools and pictures collected and made during two and a half years of life and work. The collection arises as necessity to document the relation between human, natural and built landscape to portray a frame for a way of life in India.

The selected material articulates in six environments which reflects upon the relation between man and nature, god and matter, a certain sacrality which is embedded during the act of creation and a sort of deep rooted understanding in the way of making and building.

Scotland / ‘Shadow Land’
The word Scotland is derived from the ancient Greek word for shadow, or darkness and gloom ‘skótos’. Quite simply Scotland’s ancient meaning being ‘shadow land’.

Scottish practice Stallan-Brand present art and architectural works that explore ‘how our place on earth defines us’ challenging the popular idea that ‘people make places’ by demonstrating that they in fact make us.

On May 28, Beirut-based firm 109 Architectes unveiled Notes on a Tree at the 2016 Venice Biennale of Architecture. The interactive installation is part of the GAA Foundation’s annual “Time – Space – Existence” exhibition and commemorates Lebanon’s lost public spaces.

Notes on a Tree tackles the role of the architect in countries like Lebanon, where developers often dictate urban planning. The firm uses its own projects as examples of successes and disappointments in preserving public space, which is symbolized by specific trees. Some trees were saved and some were lost, but each one represents a community’s history and collective memory.

“Contested Fronts” is an exploration of architecture’s role for commoning practices in ethnically and socially contested spaces. It focuses on the agencies of architecture’s ad-hoc technologies that contribute into conflict transformation by advocating reconciliation processes to go hand in hand with urban reconstruction processes. “Contested Fronts” introduces three levels of frontiers’ investigation where architecture claims an active role: geopolitical, disciplinary and everyday urban politics’ frontiers. To do so, it concentrates on the agencies of ad-hoc technology’s materiality and use that encourage the emergence of collectives, with their members coming from areas across divides. Ad-hoc technology has to do with means of spatial engagement, of cartographic representation and of visual communication. It assists tactful organization of physical spaces and of events.

“Architecture Print is Dead, Long Live Architecture Print!” exhibition, curated by Arshia Eghbali, and with the help of Amirhossein Adelfar as executive director, is a part of the First Tehran Architecture Biennial. It opened on May 12 and will continue until July 13.

This 90-minute tour, co-sponsored by the BSA Foundation, hosted by Charles Riverboat Company, and led by Boston By Foot guides offers spectacular views of historic and contemporary Boston architecture while providing fascinating information about many renowned architectural landmarks, including the Hancock Tower, Marriott’s Custom House, and Rowes Wharf, as well as cutting-edge contemporary buildings by today’s top architects.

As a part of BAITASI Remade, Beijing Huarong Jinying Investment & Development Co., Ltd. and World Architecture Magazine will hold an international design competition to improve the BAITASI neighbourhood in Beijing.

The application period for two postgraduate architecture design programs at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) is currently open. The university offers a Master in Advanced Studies in Collective Housing MCH, which is the first double degree program between UPM and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ), and a Master in City Sciences MCS, which aims to convert its students into experts on smart cities.

The Master in City Sciences is also organizing the 2016 International Conference in City Sciences in Santiago, Chile on June 16th and 17th, following the success of last year’s conference in Shanghai, China.

How is it possible to live in a society where changes occur in a fast and simultaneous way? These changes produce new family structures whose temporariness can change several times throughout the life cycle of a person. Therefore, currently there is no single housing prototype associated with a homogeneous sample of similar individuals who live in the same family structures.

why?
Today we are in the midst of a paradox: although fast, web-based media seems to threaten the very existence of slow architecture media, the amount of p.o.p. magazines has increased in the last few years. Furthermore, and discarding arguments about fast consumption of information, some editorial projects aimed at a slow and attentive audience have managed to succeed in the middle of a huge flow of information. It seems that once the novelty of fast media has decreased, p.o.p. architecture magazines have regained the space they once had. However, are they the same kind of magazines we once knew? How can we explain the fact that an old format may stay alive against all odds? Is it stubbornness, nostalgia, or is it something else? The reasons behind this paradox are what we would like to discuss and explore in this session.

An installation of nearly 100 books in the James Stirling-designed Book Pavilion at the Venice Biennale serves as a collection of documents that asks us to consider how climate intersects with architectural ideas.
