Student Competition: "CEMEX Pavilion 2018"

With the support of CEMEX and the Arq. Marcelo Zambrano Scholarship, the first edition of the CEMEX Pavilion 2018 competition is now open. Open to the student community in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, participants are invited to intervene in a heritage property located in the city's historic center. The goal is to provide a fresh platform for students to express their concerns and passions regarding the craft through a built project, bridging the gap between academia and professional practice.

Jane's Walk Buenos Aires 2018: Urban Walking Festival

Buenos Aires is once again joining the global urban walking festival, Jane's Walk. The seventh local edition of the event will take place from Friday, May 4, to Sunday, May 6, aiming to foster a connection between urban space and citizens to encourage a more human, active, and pedestrian-friendly city.

The more than 20 free walks taking place throughout the city are organized by Urbanismo Vivo, which has coordinated the local event since 2012, featuring routes through different neighborhoods and covering a variety of themes.

The exhibition focuses on Robin Hood Gardens, an iconic social housing project designed by Alison and Peter Smithson, whose recent demolition—condemned by architects, artists, and critics—represents the erasure of a period defined by significant social policies in the United Kingdom.

Launch of the book "Lina Bo Bardi", edited by Marcelo Ferraz

The Instituto Bardi / Casa de Vidro, in partnership with Romano Guerra Editora, will launch the 4th edition of the book Lina Bo Bardi—out of print since 2010—on May 26th at 11:00 AM at the Casa de Vidro. Edited by Marcelo Ferraz, the first edition was published in 1993, one year after the architect's passing.

The book provides an overview of Lina's work and thought through texts, drawings, and photographs. “Lina's work is essential reading for those who see architecture as a means to strive for a more just and comfortable world,” says Marcelo Ferraz, who worked with the architect for 15 years, sharing ideas and challenges.

Ideas competition + construction: Community Center in Nepal

Located between China and India, Nepal stretches along the entire length of the Himalayan mountain range. Its high mountains offer magnificent landscapes, featuring 8 of the world's highest peaks. Nepal benefits significantly from mountain tourism, which accounts for approximately 10% of its GDP. While this sector is fully exploited, the surrounding environment also presents challenges to development due to its rugged topography and unique climate. The seasons dictate the rhythm of the country's activity, with dry winters and summers marked by heavy monsoons.

Entries open for the Veka Latin America cultural competition
