Cities, Architecture, and Gender: Reconstruction Processes in Post-War Contexts.
Based on past experiences and the aftermath of recent conflicts, many cities have been violently affected, whether through the destruction of heritage or the partial or total erasure of their lived experiences.
Currently, there is an international debate regarding the various ways and meanings involved in reconstructing cities in conflict and war-torn contexts. When should this work begin? How have governments managed these processes? What is the role of architecture? How have local populations been involved? What has been the role of women—both as citizens and professionals—in these reconstructions?
We invite researchers who focus on the current Syrian conflict through the lens of architecture, as well as the specific situation of women in post-war cities from a sociological perspective. We aim to discuss these and other questions, with an eye toward potential paths for the (peaceful) future of these territories.
