On Tuesday, August 28, the Museo de Artes Visuales (MAVI) will host the launch of ARQ magazine issue 99: Infrastructures, alongside the latest edition of the ARQDOCS series. The event will feature a keynote lecture by the author, Philip Ursprung, Chair of the Department of Architecture and Professor of the History of Art and Architecture at ETH Zurich.
You are invited to the launch of our new book, "Tribunales. Sobre una Teoría Moderna." This publication examines the Tribunales building, also known as Tucapel, based on work produced during the final cycle of Proyecto Móvil. Under the title "Tucapel," this initiative established a dialogue between the building and the artists invited to exhibit.
The Discrete Structures workshop aims to explore the development of 1:1 material organizations, constrained by the design of geometrically discrete components. During the activity, participants will be introduced to parametric design tools and digital fabrication. The four-day workshop will culminate in the construction of a timber installation on the final day.
The lecture offers an overview of the most significant works by the firm MOARQS, focusing on the concepts that inform its practice and its engagement with both the professional and academic worlds. The firm’s practice is rooted in a constructive approach that fosters an architecture free of preconceptions—one that emerges from the arrangement of specific materials in a particular order, combined with "art" to achieve an intense poetics through an economy of resources.
The book launch for 'Alberto Piwonka Ovalle: en el cruce de las ideas de la Modernidad en Chile' will take place on Thursday, August 9. The book will be discussed by Alfredo Jocelyn Holt, Fernando Pérez, and Luz María Williamson.

An architect involved in software development, an architect behind the transformation of the Persa Víctor Manuel flea market, an architect in the editorial field, and an architect exploring ephemeral infrastructures will be the guests for the first session of the X FORMAS DE HACER ARQUITECTURA project, taking place in the heart of Santiago on Thursday, August 30, at 7:00 PM at AriztiaLAB.
The project is defined as a space for contemporary architecture and sculpture, open to research and the critical practice of these disciplines within the city. It is located in a warehouse complex totaling 4,500 square meters, originally built for textile manufacturing workshops and wooden furniture production.
The structure consists of reinforced masonry walls with curved metal roofing—featuring columns and trusses—in one block, and gabled wooden roofing—featuring columns and oak trusses—in the other.
“Cerros Isla de Santiago: Constructing a New Urban Imaginary Through Its Geography” is a publication for documentation and dissemination that seeks to raise awareness and highlight the natural and cultural heritage of the valley present in Santiago's 26 island hills. The book develops a dual narrative—one visual and one written—in which two photographers and seven academics and professionals explore the subject of the island hills from their respective fields of expertise. The book also includes fact sheets for each of the 26 island hills, compiling the survey and documentation work carried out by the Cerros Isla Foundation.
“Markets: Informality, Diversity, and Heritage Around the Mapocho River” is the next Atravieso Urbano hosted by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture. These thematic tours of Santiago are led by faculty architects from the institution and are open to the public.
Book launch: "Emilio Duhart. Elaboración de un espacio urbano moderno: Ciudad Universitaria de Concepción" by Cristian Berríos.
Chilean architect Emilio Duhart (1917–2006) and the University of Concepción (founded in 1919) have been inextricably linked since 1957, when Duhart began a ten-year tenure leading the expansion project for the university campus in Concepción.

In October 2016, the School of Architecture at Universidad San Sebastián launched the first in a series of inter-school workshops aimed at fostering critical discussion in architecture, using the project as a vector. This inaugural experience, led by the prominent Spanish architect and academic Juan Herreros, is captured in this publication. It documents the productive week of work shared by the participants—ten national architecture schools and one international school—alongside Herreros, as they designed various proposals seeking a critical and contemporary approach to the issue of residential infrastructure in the La Vega sector of Santiago, Chile.
