sao-paulo: The Latest Architecture and News

The Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) was awarded a grant last December through a CAU-SP public call to host an international congress titled "Landscape and Art." The event focuses on the themes of representation and landscape, as well as key figures and their work. We have brought together highly regarded researchers and professionals, and our goal is to explore the intersections of painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, and design, reaffirming the aesthetic and complex dimension of the landscape.

On March 29 at 7:00 PM, IED will host the free debate "Augmented City – Design and Creativity as Transformative Elements of Urban Territories," featuring Italian architect and urban planner Maurizio Carta (b. 1967, Palermo), Rio de Janeiro-based architect and urban planner Pedro Évora (b. 1978), and Andrea Matarazzo, with moderation by designer Alexandre Salles. The event is part of the Italian Design Day program, established by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the influence of Italian design in cities worldwide. Maurizio Carta is the author of several publications and explores the concept of the "augmented city" in books such as Dynamics of Periphery: Atlas of Emerging Creative Resilient Habitats and Territories: Rural-Urban Strategies, both co-authored with J. Schroeder, M. Ferretti, and B. Lino, and published by Jovis, Berlin, in 2018 and 2017, respectively. He is a full professor of urban and regional planning in the Department of Architecture at the University of Palermo and serves as the ambassador for Italian Design Day 2019.

The IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) will host an IED Day on March 23, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, featuring a series of activities open to the public. The event’s attractions include a tour of the secrets of Higienópolis and the IED building; workshops on theremin, dance, floral arrangement, silver jewelry, and mobile photography; a chat with digital influencers in travel and style; music by Jazz na Kombi; an exhibition; and a market featuring objects, books, and clothing. Due to limited capacity, advance registration for the workshops is required at ied.edu.br/iedday

The “Regional Forum on ATHIS and University Extension: Integrated Action in Urban Space” aims to connect students and professionals in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area who work to defend the right to the city, dignified housing, and adequate living spaces alongside low-income communities and social movements.
