Reconvening the Forum on ATHIS Practices in Risk Areas!

The book "Tropical Architectural Modernity: Modern Architectural Heritage of Recife and its Influence in Northeast Brazil," authored by architect and university professor Alcilia Afonso, is now available for purchase.

The project "Replanning with the Landscape: Community Conflict Resolution and Technical Studies for Full Reurb-S" kicks off with an opening event scheduled for October 28, 2023. This event will be a significant milestone, bringing together project stakeholders, community representatives, and authorities from Ribeirão Preto, SP—the city where these communities are located—to highlight the initiative's importance and objectives, alongside the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of São Paulo (CAU/SP), which is funding its execution.

These gatherings are FeNEA's largest and most well-known projects. The EREA (Regional Meeting of Architecture and Urbanism Students) is a deliberative body of FeNEA (National Federation of Architecture and Urbanism Students of Brazil) that takes place annually across the country's regions in different host cities. Now in its 12th edition, the Northeast Regional meeting brings together hundreds of students from all nine states for a week of theoretical and practical activities, including roundtables, project presentations, immersive experiences, workshops, collaborative work sessions, and cultural events. The primary objective is to facilitate the exchange of practical experiences and knowledge gained across different educational institutions, fostering deep integration among participants.

Aiming to rethink the legacy of the German-Venezuelan artist Gego and its historical significance within a contemporary context, LA ESCUELA___ invites participation in "Reticulárea colectiva: cartografías comunes" (Collective Reticulárea: Common Cartographies). This participatory project, conceptualized by artist Miguel Braceli, proposes building a space for encounter and learning centered on collaboration, networking, and the formation of affective bonds regarding art and territory, while addressing themes of diaspora and migration.

The “Technical Assistance Forum for Risk Mitigation: Institutional Action and Arrangements Regarding Socio-environmental Issues, Displacement, and Unsanitary Conditions” aims to share, critically discuss, and propose alternatives to the limitations and potential of Technical Assistance in addressing socio-environmental risks, displacement risks, and risks related to unsanitary conditions. This will be achieved through the exchange of professional experiences and the formulation of analyses regarding existing and potential institutional arrangements in the country.

From December 1st to 10th, São Paulo will be the epicenter of creativity and innovation with the "Moda Tech" project, taking place at Galeria Pivô. This innovative project will provide an immersive experience for enthusiasts of fashion, art, design, and technology.

The ICHT colloquia have been held alternately between Brazil and France since 2016. The goal of these meetings remains the recognition and renewal of research on the relationships between the imaginary and the act of building and inhabiting the Earth, from a transdisciplinary and international perspective that integrates reflective, critical, and design-oriented aspects.

Acácia Cultural publishing house will launch the book O Jacaré Fujão no Triângulo, by author Sabrina Fontenele, on Saturday, March 11. The launch event will take place at Escola da Cidade, in São Paulo, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and will feature a storytelling session open to the public.

The Maia City Council is hosting the next edition of the Architecture Month in March and April 2023, an event entirely dedicated to architecture within the Maia territory.

In 1986, the first posthumous exhibition of Hélio Oiticica (1937 – 1980) was held, organized by the HO Project, which was coordinated at the time by Lygia Pape, Luciano Figueiredo, and Wally Salomão. For this exhibition, titled “O q faço é música” (What I do is music) and held at the Galeria de Arte São Paulo, the project produced unique editions of the iconic works “Relevo Espacial, 1959/1986” and “Parangolé P4 Capa 1, 1964/1986” to raise funds for the organization, cataloging, and conservation of the works and documents left by the artist.

From June 14 to 22, the Instituto Tomie Ohtake will host a series of activities aimed at exploring processes and sharing ideas related to the works featured in the 9th Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Prize exhibition. The Dialogues series program includes debates on projects and construction through conversations with the architects; visits to buildings in São Paulo that are part of the exhibition; a guided tour with the exhibition's curatorial team; and a roundtable discussion on the work of educational teams in cultural institutions and museums. The activities are open to the general public, with some requiring prior registration due to limited capacity. See the schedule below:

The exhibition "Future References: Architecture and 3D Printed Construction" presents 3D-printed elements at the Prototype Laboratory (PEP-Lab) of the Construction Technologies Research Center (CITEC) at the University of Bío-Bío. These were created by the UBB Additive Manufacturing in Construction group, which includes architects, construction engineers, civil engineers, and automation engineers, in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate students, companies, and professionals.

Brazilian art, particularly street art, graffiti, and their derivatives, continues to gain prominence abroad. A case in point is the participation of Enivo, a muralist and co-owner of the A7MA gallery, in ArtPrize 2023. The event is taking place in Michigan, where the artist has been since the beginning of the month preparing two projects for the city.

On November 16, the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH) will award an honorary doctorate to architect and 2019 National Architecture Prize recipient Miguel Lawner Steiman, in recognition of his distinguished career and commitment to social housing.

On May 24th at 5:00 PM, Greg Bousquet, a co-founder of Triptyque Architecture and currently head of ARCHITECTS OFFICE (AO)—an international architecture, urbanism, and interior design agency with offices in São Paulo and Lisbon—will discuss how architecture, in dialogue with the construction sector, can work toward a better future for cities.
Driven by the goal of promoting spaces that prioritize well-being, resilient buildings, and more democratic cities, Greg will present the contemporary stance and philosophy he has consolidated over the past seven years, which shaped the foundation of AO. It is a pragmatic and contemporary perspective on the current trajectory of the profession.
