In celebration of Book Month, the Instituto Cervantes in São Paulo will open the exhibition "Anaqronías" by award-winning photographer Juan Cerón on April 25. Following an extensive conceptualization process and various projects that allowed for artistic growth, "Anaqronías" is the photographer's second personal project, a journey that has led to exhibitions in several countries across three continents—including Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic—before finally arriving in Brazil.
The exhibition presents a contemporary photographic interpretation based on a documented study of Miguel de Cervantes' novel "Don Quixote," as Juan Cerón explains:
“I attempted to rescue secondary, tertiary, and imaginary characters from the deepest corners of the work and translate them into a photographic reality. By imbuing them with an anachronism—an anachronistic element always related to the character's role in the novel—I aim to bridge the gap between the initially intended pictorial image and a contemporary one, thus playing with anachronism as a necessary and intentional aesthetic error.”
