The primary objective of this course is to equip students with fundamental concepts and powerful tools for developing projects that involve structural engineering, including buildings, residential housing, industrial facilities, and soil feasibility. By the end of the course, students will be able to navigate the variables involved in including, removing, or modifying structural elements through an examination of structural philosophy, the state of the art, national and international regulations, and plan review.

From August 27 to October 8, every Thursday at 7:00 PM, the "Women and Modern Architecture Series" will take place. This series aims to serve as a meeting space to examine the contributions of women to architecture, not only within the discipline itself but also through design, photography, and historiography.

The Traditional Architecture Summer School will take place on Pico Island, Azores, Portugal, from July 12 to 25, 2021. Traditional construction, architecture, and urbanism will be studied to produce a catalog for the conservation and new traditional construction in the area. Hand drawing and data collection will be the primary daily activities. Experts in vernacular architecture and construction will give lectures on various related topics. Trips around the island and site visits will be conducted. During the final days, improvement proposals for various local public spaces will be designed, utilizing the previously conducted study.

The 'Ideas en Pandemia' and 'Proyecto Perú' initiatives, in collaboration with the Municipality of Lima, have launched a significant effort to bring together diverse civil society actors and local government to address the current challenges facing food markets in the country, specifically in the La Victoria district. This effort promotes formal dialogue between civil society, public agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions in Peru and Latin America to reflect on and resolve shared regional issues.

Anales de Investigación en Arquitectura is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to disseminating research advancements in the fields of architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, and sustainability. In line with its international scope, it publishes original research articles, essays, literature reviews, project catalogs, and case studies. The journal is open to schools of architecture and the community of researchers, professionals, academics, and interested readers. It accepts contributions written in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

The Polytechnic School of the CEU-San Pablo University is celebrating its 50th anniversary. During this period, which has brought so many social and technological transformations, nearly 1,500 architects have graduated from its classrooms. We all see because it is a natural human gift. However, if we learn to LOOK through the eye of the camera, we can Frame. If we can distinguish between near and far, sharp and blurry, foreground and background, we can Focus. By prioritizing, categorizing, organizing, and balancing, we can Compose. By drawing with light, concealing with shadow, and saturating and texturing the subject, we can Illuminate. By understanding the situation, tracking movements, positions, and paths, and waiting for the exact moment, we can Capture. The sum of these five actions results in a great photograph.

Somatic space and multiple bodies reveal a place from which architectures and landscapes emerge. An architectural environment that exists within us. This architecture aspires to be made of the same matter shared by bodies, vital impulse, or the planet.

According to some Latin definitions, "to speculate" means "to observe from a height," and a "speculator" can mean a spy or an explorer. In both cases, the speculator is capable of seeing ahead—someone who observes what is happening and concludes the probable scenarios that may result. Speculation, then, is an observation laden with accumulated knowledge that allows for a serious reading of possibilities, thereby anticipating what might occur.

This third volume in the Compendium ARQ series is dedicated to buildings that shape the city, contributing to urban quality of life. The goal is to highlight projects that do not shy away from the complexities of the urban condition—from civic demands to those of the real estate market—but rather understand them as part of the richness to which architecture must contribute. In this sense, we aim to highlight what we see as a new attitude in architectural practice in Chile, characterized by a commitment to complexity and requirements external to the profession, moving away from an interest in self-referential architectures associated with unique commissions in locations exempt from the tensions of the contemporary city.

As in global politics, the history of architecture has often treated refugees as mere human surplus. Consequently, conventional architectural histories have largely limited themselves to echoing the nation-state’s exclusion of refugees as people out of place. This book examines several often-overlooked yet critical intersections between mass population displacement and architecture, tracing a trajectory from the 19th and 20th centuries to the present day. By identifying the refugee as the central collective political subject of our time, this study seeks to initiate a history of refugee architecture that bridges the gap between architectural history and the study of displacement.

This book compiles six interviews with American artist Gordon Matta-Clark (1943–1978) conducted during the most productive years of his artistic career, from 1974—shortly after he completed his famous work Splitting, which involved cutting a condemned suburban house in half—to the year of his untimely death in 1978 at the age of 35. As an artist of few words who preferred action over theoretical statements, these interviews serve as valuable documents for gaining insight into the motivations behind his work.
