UN-Habitat Brazil is opening the call for event submissions for the 2020 Urban Circuit.

This call seeks to recognize built architectural works, regardless of scale, that address contemporary societal issues. Special consideration will be given to projects that demonstrate a positive impact on urban and rural spaces through improvements and innovations in housing, infrastructure, public space, social integration, and environmental sustainability, in alignment with the core concepts of the XIV BIAU.

The 4th call for entries for the AADIPA European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention, aimed at professionals involved in architectural heritage, opened for online registration on Monday, December 17, 2018, and will remain open until April 5, 2019.

The 8th edition of the Furniture Design Award (PREDIM) is an honor organized by the Mexican Association of Suppliers for the Wood and Furniture Industry (AMPIMM, A.C.) and the MEM Industrial expo, with the support of DI-INTEGRA and ArchDaily. The award is presented by industry specialists to students of industrial design, interior design, or architecture. The Oscar Niemeyer Award for Latin American Architecture, or ON Award, was established as an initiative of the Latin American Architecture Biennials Network (REDBAAL), founded in Quito through a constitutive act signed on November 23, 2012, during the XVIII Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito (BAQ 2012).

The Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism is a benchmark event for understanding the current state and future prospects of architecture and urbanism in the Ibero-American community. On December 17, the call for entries for the 2019 edition, curated by Arturo Franco and Ana Román, was opened. It will select the best works of architecture and urbanism, publications, research texts, and academic projects from the involved regions.

The call for entries for the XI BIAU will remain open until April 2019, and the results will be presented in Asunción (Paraguay) in October of that same year. The program of activities will include an exhibition of the selected works, a series of keynote lectures, specialized presentations, and panel discussions centered around the theme of the XI BIAU—aĩ paragua y (habit - water)—as well as exhibitions and other parallel activities, including the recognition of the career achievements of several masters.

In an era of globalization, where communication has been dominated by the technological revolution, it is necessary to rethink cities and how humans relate to a global world, as well as to reconsider the economic, social, and cultural patterns of contemporary societies.

The Projetar.org portal regularly hosts idea competitions for students and recent graduates. These hypothetical academic exercises aim to stimulate creativity, promote professional development, and contribute to the critical growth of young professionals regarding current issues. The results serve as a showcase, highlighting proposals and facilitating the discovery of new talent.
Although the 29th architecture competition from the Projetar.org portal takes place in the context of the fire that destroyed the National Museum, the starting point of this contest is not the tragedy itself. The inspiration for addressing this delicate subject was the "Museu Nacional Vive" (National Museum Lives) campaign, launched in September of this year.
On the campaign's website, it is possible to follow the continuation of research, graduate classes, and outreach activities. With approximately 2 million items from its collection preserved, the National Museum remains among the most important museum institutions in Latin America.
In a letter sent to the presidential candidates, the Director of the National Museum, Alexander Kellner, stated that despite having lost a significant portion of its collection, the National Museum "has not lost its capacity to generate knowledge."
Although the palace that housed the National Museum is in ruins, it is evident that the people who kept it alive, even under conditions far from ideal, are more committed than ever to ensuring the institution continues to promote the country's scientific and cultural development.
In honor of the strength, resilience, and determination of every professor, student, and researcher at the National Museum/UFRJ, the Projetar.org portal proposes an academic exercise: to imagine a space dedicated to the survival of the National Museum while its permanent home is being restored.
If, as the National Museum stated, "being alive is more than surviving: it is resisting, it is fighting, it is re-existing," we could call this space, set amidst the lush nature of the Quinta da Boa Vista, the "Gallery of Re-existence."
Given the relevance and complexity of the proposed theme, the Projetar.org portal is introducing a new feature for Competition 029: allowing the formation of multidisciplinary teams, composed of students and recent graduates in architecture and other fields.

The Instituto Tomie Ohtake and AkzoNobel continue to map contemporary architectural production by highlighting, for the fifth consecutive year, significant projects built within the current Brazilian landscape. Urban relationships, commitment to the site and sustainability, as well as design and construction inventiveness, are the fundamental criteria guiding the 5th Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Prize.

For this fifth edition, free registration must be completed online from February 22 to April 13, 2018, via the Instituto Tomie Ohtake website, which contains full details on the award, including the official rules and the registration platform.
