The Ableist Cities Symposium will bring together academics and industry experts to hear narratives of individual lived experience and co-designed research around disability and accessibility in cities.

Retrofit Symposium

Hosted by the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne, this two-day symposium brings together academic, government and industry experts to set the national research agenda to support the transformation of Australian cities. A series of keynote lectures, site visits and panel discussions featuring local and international speakers will explore the need for an increase in the scale of retrofitting in Australia. A Sense of Identity: An exploration of Landscape Architecture in Africa

Join us for the final Dean’s Lecture for 2023 with landscape architects Chloe and Michael Humphreys, founders of The Landscape Studio. Their unique approach is driven by careful observation and an in-depth understanding of the wider landscape. In this lecture they will present key projects in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya that showcase their innovative process, with design solutions that aim to improve the biodiversity and sustainability of their project sites.

Matrix: How We Live Now

Matrix: How We Live Now is a timely new exhibition exploring the work of the Matrix Feminist Design Co-operative, a radical feminist architectural practice active in London from 1980 to 1996. The exhibition features items drawn from the collective’s open archive, alongside projects from researchers at the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning on gender, bodies and ecologies. Join us for a series of floor talks and panel discussions during the exhibition on important topics including architecture and community, bodies and cities, and writing diverse histories of architecture.

Thinking of You: Projects by MGS Architects

Join us for this new exhibition reflecting on the work of well-known Melbourne-based practice MGS Architects. The exhibition will feature voices of the residents who inhabit the design projects; foregrounding the collaborative, process-driven approach of the practice. Key projects in community housing, urban precinct redesign and education demonstrate the practice’s commitment to creating places that meet the demands of living well and living sustainably, coupled with the desire for individual expression and the need for community.
