Re: Zoning | 100 Years of Shaping the Future of New York

On July 25, 1916, New York City enacted the nation’s first comprehensive zoning code. Intended as an innovative tool to guide urban growth, the law continues to play a central role in shaping our city a century later. On the centenial anniversary of the first Zoning Resolution, the Museum of the City of New York and The Municipal Art Society co-present an in-depth examination of the law – with an eye towards the future. We will ask: how can zoning better serve contemporary objectives and address the major challenges – physical, economic, and social – facing our city today?

Downtown Dialogues: Mark Kushner and Ben Prosky

Marc Kushner, AIA, is co-founder and CEO of Architizer and Partner of New York architecture firm HWKN (Hollwich Kushner). Benjamin Prosky is Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIANY) and the Center for Architecture. He previously served as Assistant Dean for Communications at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). In 2009, Prosky co-founded Architizer.

Columbia GSAPP: End of Year Show

For one week each spring at Columbia GSAPP, the entire school is on display. The studios, seminar rooms, hallways, and stairwells of Avery, Fayerweather, and Buell Halls are transformed into temporary exhibition spaces for the End of Year Show. Event: Guess-A-Sketch 2016

Center for Architecture is proud to present the return of Guess-A-Sketch, a lively evening where architects, architecture enthusiasts, and young professionals gather for an architecture-themed, pictionary-style tournament. From commercial mixed-use to hospitality and social housing, Singapore- based WOHA reinterprets the skyscraper as a prototype for hyper-dense, green urban living. Every Building in Baghdad: The Rifat Chadirji Archive at the Arab Image Foundation

This exhibition of several hundred original photographs examines the work of Iraqi architect Rifat Chadirji through the collection of his documents held at the Arab Image Foundation in Beirut. With the work of his architectural office, Iraq Consult, and in his other roles as a planning consultant and as director of buildings for several government agencies, Chadirji became a pivotal cultural figure in Baghdad during the period of its postwar modernization from the 1950s through the 1970s.
