More about this product

Skylights from Forzon, a group company associated with Deforche Construction Group, were installed in the roof structure of the Gare Maritime Museum in Belgium. Formerly a freight railway station built in 1907, the historical building was recently renovated. The use of Forzon skylights helps in creating a suitable indoor climate. Natural daylight is used as much as possible while ventilation through the skylights provides a much-needed breeze during the summer, reducing the need for artificial cooling.

Construction Details

The skylights are crafted from custom extruded aluminum profiles, ensuring the preservation of the building's historic character. Ventilation hatches, made of slim profiles, seamlessly integrate into the glazed roof system. The skylight incorporates custom greenhouse profiles with condensation gutters for enhanced functionality.

Zero-Energy Design

Thanks to the use of skylights with other smart design choices, the Gare Maritime is a zero-energy building. No fossil fuels are used for heating or cooling throughout the entire space. The building envelope maximizes natural light while ensuring that desired energy is not lost. Double insulating and solar glazing specifications help achieve this. The latest technical solutions have been installed for ventilation, cooling, and lighting.

It's a prime illustration of biophilic design, seamlessly harmonizing an optimal climate for humans and nature.

The Gare Maritime received an honorable mention in the Circular Building category and won the Belgian Building Award for the Utility Building category.
