Zambia has been hosting Angolan refugees since 1966, when the Angolan revolution against the Portuguese spread to the east of the country, forcing people to flee to neighboring Zambia in search of safety. Nearly 60 years later, Zambia continues to receive refugees from a long list of countries, predominantly from the Congo, Burundi, and Somalia. In total, there are approximately 105,000 refugees in camps and settlements across Zambia, 65,000 of whom are from the Congo and 20,000 from Angola.
