Archstorming is launching a new competition in partnership with the NGO Kakolum. We will travel to Casamance, a region in Senegal marked by an identity conflict that began over 30 years ago and continues to this day. Located between The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, this region faces several challenges, one of which is the lack of classrooms for primary and secondary school children.
Schools in Casamance are often temporary structures made of straw, mud, or scrap aluminum, where students sit on the floor and teachers rarely have a desk or chair. The NGO has been working on rebuilding schools in the area and has now decided to construct a new one in the coastal town of Kafountine.
Although the population of Kafountine is around 17,000, there is only one secondary school in the city. Currently, more than 1,000 students attend this school, even though the infrastructure is not equipped to accommodate more than 600. Consequently, there is a pressing need to build another secondary school to meet the growing demand for education in the area.
