FABRICATE 2024 – Creating Resourceful Futures

The fifth edition of the internationally renowned FABRICATE conference will take place April 4 – 6, 2024 in Copenhagen at The Royal Danish Academy - Architecture, Design, Conservation.

Days of ORIS 2024: Mary Anderson, Xu Tiantian and Alejandro Aravena

Since 2001, Days of Oris has brought together some of the world's most interesting global architects, in Zagreb, Croatia. This year three global practices bring unique perspective from diverse geographies: Mary Anderson from Assemble (UK), a community oriented practice that does not only focus on the building, but rather on the social impact of their projects; Xu Tiantian from DnA Design and Architecture (China), with a focus on rural China and its communities, delivering an architecture with a strong identity; and Pritzker laureate Alejandro Aravena, whose practice ELEMENTAL (Chile) has brought new perspectives to social housing and public projects across the globe, focusing on the right answer that architecture should respond to.

Architectures of Transition: Frameworks & Practices in South Asia

Organized by the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University in collaboration with the Architecture Foundation, this conference aims to create a forum that helps architects reflect upon the breadth of work undertaken in the South Asia region collectively. The conference will put theoreticians/academics and practitioners in dialogue with each other - bridging the schism that exists between the academy and practice. This is hoped to lead to some productive insights on both ends of the spectrum to help better inform the question: What is the ‘architecture’ of practice, that is relevant and effective for the South Asia region, that continues to be characterized by acute transitions?

Shaping the City Venice 2023

Shaping the City comes back to Venice this November

Following the success of previous editions in Venice, Chicago and New Orleans, the
next chapter of Shaping the City, forum for sustainable cities and communities, is scheduled to take place in Venice for its 3rd edition in the floating city. The conference, curated by the European Cultural Centre as part of the public programme of its Venice Architecture Biennial exhibition titled Time Space Existence, will be held on 24 and 25 November in the iconic Palazzo Michiel del Brusà in Strada Nova, Cannaregio and online on the YouTube channel of ECC Italy.

Public Conference “UREHERIT: Architects for Heritage in Ukraine”

The first public event – public conference “UREHERIT: architects for heritage in Ukraine” dedicated especially to the project happened on 13th of October 2023. Despite the war, experts from three countries - Lithuania, Estonia and Romania - visited Ukraine. As many as 120 speakers ( 50 experts offline and 70 experts who participated in the event remotely, in total the event united 300 participants and listeners ) share their knowledge and experience, and will experiment with the aim to build competence on the heritage protection, regeneration of culturally meaningful plans and projects and empowering of local communities as a tool for building the new, democratic, and sustainable Ukraine with a unique yet European cultural DNA.

The VII International Congress of Architecture: Urban Controversies

The VII International Congress of Architecture, focusing on Urban Controversies, is a must- attend event set to take place at the Baluarte Auditorium from November 15th to 17th, 2023. This event, hosted in Pamplona, will bring together experts from around the world to discuss critical issues in architecture and sustainable urban development. Organized by the Architecture and Society Foundation, this seventh edition of the International Architecture Congress is dedicated to examining the complex challenges faced by cities.

International Symposium on ‘Architecture for All: Call of the Future’

We are happy to share with you that the School of Architecture at the Anant National University, Ahmedabad, is organising an International Symposium on Architecture for All: Call of the Future scheduled from 23rd to 25th February 2024. The symposium discusses the design position of our time as we embark on the quest to find what the architecture of the future should be. The symposium calls for proposals that explore the identified themes through the lens of either questioning the existing or embracing the future.
Three prominent international keynote speakers have been finalised to enrich the discourse. They are Architect Madhura Prematilleke from Sri Lanka, Architect Marina Tabassum from Bangladesh, and Architect Peter Rich from South Africa.
We invite you all to submit abstracts and share your ideas and research with an opportunity to get the work published. The last date to submit the abstracts is the 5th of November, 2023.

Shaping the City New Orleans 2023

Following the success of previous editions in Venice and Chicago, the next edition of Shaping the City is scheduled to take place on the 5th and 6th of October, 2023, in New Orleans at the AIA, Center for Design and at the F. Taylor Library, Ogden Museum.

Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) Global Conference: Future Cities: Through Science. By Design. In Place. Over Time.

The ongoing, rapid urbanization has significant effects on the future of urban development and the coexistence of people. This presents us with great challenges. Traditional functional planning models can no longer adequately capture the complex interrelationships and different influencing factors. A new, holistic understanding of urban planning that considers the interactions of sustainable design principles and can enhance the quality of life in cities is required. This should develop visionary approaches that anticipate and address future needs and challenges.

Where in the World Is Tashkent

Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural conference dedicated to the preservation of modernist architecture in the Uzbek capital. The conference, titled Where in the World Is Tashkent, will be held on October 18-19, 2023, as part of the Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI research and preservation project. The event will be dedicated to the memory of architect and historian Jean-Louis Cohen (1949–2023), who was an important contributor to this project.

ICAMT 49th International Conference 2023 Porto - Undoing Conflict in Museums

Every year, the International Committee for Architecture and Museum Techniques (ICAMT) of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) organises an important international conference that brings together experts from different fields, namely museum studies, architecture and exhibition design.
This year, the University of Porto will host the 49th ICAMT International Conference from 25 to 27 October 2023. Together with the ICAMT, the Portuguese entities responsible for organising this event are the Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar Cultura, Espaço e Memória (CITCEM/UPorto) and the Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU/UPorto).
The Conference's central theme will be "Undoing conflict in museums: materiality and meaning of museum architecture and exhibition design". Conference participants will focus their reflections on the power of conflict. Debating how opposing ideas can enhance, change and develop in museums and exhibitions, and the role of architecture and exhibition design in managing conflict in museums.In addition to the presentations organised, the program will include a variety of case studies, providing visits to museums (such as Galeria da Biodiversidade - Centro Ciência Viva, Casa Comum da Reitoria Universidade do Porto, Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, Museu do Porto - Ateliê António Carneiro, Museu de Serralves, Bienal de Design (main exhibition), Casa da Arquitectura and Museu da Memória de Matosinhos) to consider how museum practices have addressed various conflicts in terms of architectural choices and exhibition design practices.
