Text description provided by the architects. The house is located in Yokawa, which is in the south-central part of Hyogo Prefecture.
The clients are a senior couple and have lived in several countries and cities around the world because of their business, such as Panama, Peru, Los Angels, Singapore, London and Tokyo. After retiring, they decided to return to their hometown. As is situated in the peaceful rural area of rice paddy fields, the clients desired to live in a house not only that is spacious and calm, but also with variety and diversity, like traveling around world, which recalls their experience during the journey.
Each room has different dimension, roof structure, materials and elements, while forming continuous doughnut-shaped space. In the courtyard, numbers of eaves gather and overlap, creating extraordinary contour on the edge of the roof. Various types of windows are carefully placed to provide views to the landscape and privacy, and create unique elevation.
Through the windows, the relationship varies among rooms, the landscape and the courtyard give enjoyable movement to the client's life.
