195 Melbourne Street / Tridente Architects

This simple and understated project, designed by Tridente Architects, sits comfortably within this transitional streetscape and provides a glimpse of what is possible in the changing Australian cities. North Adelaide, as for most inner precincts of Australian cities, continues to transform from established older residential building stock to larger and more contemporary commercial buildings. In the case of Melbourne Street the predominant character of single storey buildings has long been under pressure due to the limited commercial accommodation available in close proximity to the adjacent Central Business Precinct. As a direct result the established patterns of narrow sites with stand alone residential buildings providing a mix of both residential and commercial activity is now less desirable; especially given an increasing awareness that consolidation within such existing frameworks offers a more appropriate approach to sustainability and environments more suited to present day usage.

Sacred Heart College Senior School Marcellin Learning Centre / Tridente Architects

This is the first project we have featured by Tridente Architects from North Adelaide, Australia. Founded in 1987, they take pride in responding to the uniqueness of each project. Rather than producing signature architecture, their projects strive to be sensitive to the specific climatic, environmental, physical, social and cultural aspects of each site and client. Today’s featured project tackles all of those various aspects. As the second major project to be implemented after master planning the entire campus, the Marcellin Learning Centre at the Sacred Heart College Senior School in Somerton Park, South Australia, reinforces the schools focus of being a teaching institution of its time. This new facility signifies this by the intervention of a contemporary building in a very prominent location within a historically significant precinct.

Parramatta City Council is officially on the hunt for the boldest, most innovative and creative thinkers to present their vision for an iconic site along the scenic Parramatta River foreshore as part of an international ideas competition, ‘Ideas on Edge’. Prize money of $50,000 is on offer for a commercially viable idea for the site located at a prime position on the edge of Parramatta River, with the competition open to people of all ages and backgrounds from around the world.
The site covers 2.2Ha and is located between Lennox and Bernie Banton bridges. It is connected to transport, shopping facilities and Parramatta’s thriving dining precinct, ‘Eat Street’’.
