he really deserves it…. great work
MASTER!
Sometimes true genius prevails, not often, but sometimes.
one of the rare genius minds in architecture today!
Fantastic work!!!
By far the best Architect working today. Zumthor is making sure we don’t forget what architecture is all about.
nice works.. but isn’t it the architecture for the impression, but not for the living side by side with it?
It seems like it is the impression, but for Zumthor it must have been entirely an internal experience. That is what the viewer/user of his architecture re-experiences, it is what makes Zumthor’s architecture so intense. Outside, his forms are simple, made into a part of the environment in which they stand. Inside it is another world, a world from the depth of the human love – the silence within when there are no more doubts.
por fin.
honor a quien honor merece
mas vale tarde que nunca
So..following the pritzker’s logic…next year eisemann or libskind will take it…you give it to siza…you give it to zaha hadid…you give it oscar niemeyer you give it morphosis…you give it to barragan you give it norman foster…you give it herzog you give it to ghery…The list of winners should be more carefully chosen…20 or 30 years from now one won’t know who the hell is richard rogers,or Portzamparc…anyone remembers him?or Kevin roche…Nevertheless congratulations for zumthor a true deserver.
We need a new award, the pritzker price is not enought for Zumthor?
This post lacks some pictures of the Kunsthaus in Bregenz. Follow the link for a small gallery.

‘lacking talent at the most basic level’?! there are not many architects working as careful as zumthor, which doesn’t make him immune to critiques, but you should definitely be a little more specific!
Katanaman I can assure that I was not dropped on my head at birth. I have written extensively on the work of Zumthor this last year prior to the Pritzker Prize or any other award. It on this basis that I have to disagree with you. I shall use Zumthor’s chapel at Sogn Benedegt as an example. This is a single room provided to a hamlet community for the purpose of worship. Within this one room volume he has invested such quality of materials, construction, and atmosphere. I can assure that when sat in this building it does not lack heart and it reveals Zumthor to be the talent he is.
When I heard Zumthor talk recently at the RIBA I can understand why his buildings are so successful. He places heart and soul into the design process. Long after many have given up and headed for CAD and 3D to design their building Zumthor remains ardent in the pursuance of the perfect sketch to represent the perfect final result. Only when he has this does technology take over. I can see in his sketches that he does not lack talent at the most basic level.
Perhaps you could qualify your comment so that I may understand your perspective?
I like the fact that he smokes cigars! Brecht called cigars his “Means of Production.”

his patience and attention to detail are what make him so good….his buildings will still be amazing in 30 years time….a true craftsmen when so much of the architects today get caught up
loud, disgusting ‘ stop look at me!’ design….his buildings engage the senses….
