Asa House / Bernardes Arquitetura

Sitting on the top of a hill where a preexisting property was located, the Asa House (‘asa’ is the Portuguese word for wing) entirely rebuilt the relationship between site and building. The house creates a ‘harmoniously contrasting’ relationship between landscape and architecture through the articulation of partially underground spaces and emerging transparent volumes.

Apple Store Via Del Corso / Foster + Partners

Situated on Via del Corso, one of the most vibrant streets in Italy’s capital, Apple Via Del Corso brings the historic Palazzo Marignoli back to life. Inspired by its colorful past, the design reveals the building’s fascinating and multi-layered history by unveiling painted ceilings and frescoes from the 1890s juxtaposed with modern graffiti artworks from the 1950s. Celebrating the murals, hidden from view for decades, the new design creates a space where the city and history truly meet.

Galleria Midobaru Hotel / DABURA.m Inc.

This is a hotel in Beppu, Japan. It is owned by a traditional inn company founded in this city in 1900. It stands on a cliff overlooking the hot spring stream cityscape and Beppu Bay. All guest rooms have free-flowing hot spring baths. We designed it for those who want the emergence of a new culture connecting to local history, culture and nature. Its greatest feature is "site-specific" architecture and space. Those prompt people to interact, and the hotel acts as a new community base.

Elephant Museum Elephant World / Bangkok Project Studio

Elephants have a special status in Thailand. They are part of grand royal ceremonies and were war animals for Kings throughout the country’s ancient history. In addition to being respected, the relationship between elephants and Thai people is unique—being treated as family members rather than pets or labour. The bond is perhaps strongest in the village of the ethnic Kui in Surin province, north-eastern Thailand. For many centuries, the community has lived with elephants that their ways of life, from birth to death, can hardly be separated.

Cradle Mountain Gateway Precinct / Cumulus Studio

Sharp geometric forms beckon to a honeyed cave. Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre is a building of contrasts. It’s imposing but harmonious. It’s an abstract interpretation of nature. And it’s modern with a rightness unrooted in time. Most surprising of all, perhaps, is how the raw exterior unwinds into a warm, soft, delicate timber lining.

Aabenraa City Centre / ADEPT + Topotek 1

Competing usage patterns had resulted in a counterintuitive spatial structure in the Danish small town of Aabenraa. In the course of the comprehensive redesign, Topotek 1 together with ADEPT developed a vibrant new topology in which the diverse dimensions of contemporary urban life can interact in a dynamic way, respecting the heterogeneous character of public space and activity.

The Tide is a 5-kilometre network of public spaces and gardens embedded into the daily rhythms of Greenwich Peninsula. Both an elevated and at-grade walkway, with programming split across both levels, The Tide activates spaces above and below to provide a layered network of recreation, culture, and wellness. The Tide will stitch together diverse ecosystems, emerging neighbourhoods, and distinct cultural institutions, connecting north to south, east to west, centre to the periphery, and city to river. The Tide is both fast and slow. It is simultaneously a running track, a walking promenade, a series of quiet gardens, and a network of social and cultural hubs.

Rehabilitation of a Single-Family Home in Miraflores / fuertespenedo arquitectos

The house is located in Miraflores, Muros, a small rural core of traditional character, formed by a set of stone houses and a large number of granaries that once housed, dried and treated the corn plantations. The house is located on a steep plot, originally was composed of two attached volumes, which respond to the traditional scheme of Galician housing where the main spaces were the stables and the kitchen: with the oven and the stone cooler, but with the passage of time a third volume is added and a series of modifications are made that distort its character. The three volumes adapt to the slope, are protected from the winds and almost close to the imposing views of the Muros estuary, giving rise to a compartmentalized interior, of small and dark spaces.

Along with the increasing demands for latter services, the client decided to build an annex for dental and orthodontic treatments for children.
